Before you post to FR for free, you have to ask yourself, how do they make back the money invested in development and sustainment?

EXACTLY. Nothing is for free. Especially when its being peddled by a communist that supports Commie Core who’s a friend and donor to Obama

Nothing is for free and there is always a catch. The catch is you will not have any privacy in W10.

Before U install the WinX spyware, try a Linux Distribution. They have only gotten better and are capable of running a Virtual Box that runs Win(various flavours) where you can still run your older WIN apps.
Linux/Linux (Win/Win).

That desktop OS is only a small fraction of the software Microsoft develops. Having a large installed base of that OS helps drive demand for a lot of other software that is most assuredly not free.

They’re moving to the Apple model, where they get be a cut from apps sells, so its in their interest that more people move to windows 10 so they have access to the windows store

I don’t respond to their nagware.
They have tried to install Win 10 without my permission. My anti-virus prevented it.

The Windows 10 freebie is on a one-year basis only. After a year you have to purchase it or it stops functioning. ;-)

I am running Win 10 on the PC I am writing this on...
So far, it’s much better than Win 7, and Win 8.1
I don’t know how they plan to capitalize it except to move everyone forward so that they can abandon support for the previous version(s) and have a new product in the market.
Win 8/8.1 was an epic disaster, and the PC manufacturers were selling new PC’s with Win7. So, penetration of Win 8/8.1 was being hampered. I suspect that some good will was partly the motivation, the other was the ability to close the book on Win 8/8.1
