Donald Trump On Ben Carson: Doctors Don't Create Jobs
Daily Caller ^ | 9/2/2015 | Jamie Weinstein

Posted on 09/02/2015 6:10:49 PM PDT by conservativejoy

Donald Trump says he has great affection for Ben Carson, but he’s not so sure Carson has the right experience to be president.

The billionaire businessman and Republican presidential frontrunner explained why in an extensive interview with The Daily Caller that covered a wide array of subjects. The interview will be published in sections over the coming days.

A Monmouth University poll of Iowa released Monday showed Trump tied with Carson for first place — though Trump is quick to note that it was just one poll and that he leads the field, including Carson, in all the other recent polls.

But despite the rising threat of Carson in Iowa, Trump has not yet attacked the world-renowned neurosurgeon. Asked by TheDC whether being a doctor provides the necessary experience to be president, Trump said while Carson is “a wonderful guy,” he thinks it would be “very tough” for someone who spent his life as a surgeon to handle the job.

“I think it’s a very difficult situation that he’d be placed in,” Trump elaborated. “He’s really a friend of mine, I just think it’s a very difficult situation that he puts himself into, to have a doctor who wasn’t creating jobs and would have a nurse or maybe two nurses. It’s such a different world. I’ve created tens of thousands of jobs over the years.”

In the past Trump has questioned whether Ted Cruz is eligible to be president because the Texas senator was born in Canada to an American mother and a Cuban father. Cruz and Trump have since become something like BFFs on the campaign trail, refusing to criticize each other and even scheduled to appear together at an upcoming rally in Washington against the nuclear deal with Iran. Asked whether he still thinks Cruz might not be eligible to be president, Trump said, “based on everything I see, there’s no problem.”

“Because other people have brought it up, and it seems like the legal scholars have all been satisfied,” he went on. “It was never a big point for me, but I have watched other people question him, and the legal scholars have been satisfied.”

President Barack Obama has been criticized by many Republicans, including Trump, for his regular golf outings. But would Trump, who is an avid golfer and owns many golf courses throughout the world, regularly hit the links if he makes it to the Oval Office?

“The problem with the president, he’s played more than people on the PGA tour,” Trump quipped. “He plays a lot. He’s like a touring professional in terms of the amount of play.”

“Golf can be a great tool for making deals, but you can’t play with your friends, you have to play with people that you’re looking to — for instance, playing with [House Speaker] John Boehner and playing with [Senate leader Mitch] McConnell and playing with people that you need to make deals with,” Trump argued. “It can be an amazing tool for getting things done and for making deals.”

“With that being said, you want to play it the proper number of times,” he went on. “If the president would use golf as a tool more than he does, I think it would be very positive.”

Trump often cites how rich he is as a sign of his success and, in turn, a qualification to be President of the United States. By that standard, would someone richer than him, like Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, be more qualified for the presidency?

“That’s different,” Trump replied. “Honestly, I don’t think I’d swap assets, to be honest with you. I’ve seen that stuff go up and down. I have very, very solid stuff. To me, I love real estate because you can feel it. A lot of people, they’ll make five hundred million dollars by doing some new computer game, but I don’t consider that — I consider that sort of different. I consider that paper.”

“I did it in real estate,” he explained, “and as real estate goes, this is about as high as you go.”

“Eleven employees at each facility. Other private care physicians in the locale have between two and ten employees. I’d say that many physicians do employ. I have a veterinary clinic, employ eleven. Trump’s mouth is going to sink him.”

Wow, 11 employees as versus Trump’s thousands. Geez.

No, but the President “hires” the Treasury Secretary and economic advisors who set economic policies and lobby Congress for legislation, Labor Secretary (who oversees the NLRB) who sets labor rules (or removes them), EPA Secretary who sets environmental policies (or removes restrictions), appoints federal and SCOTUS judges who rules (for better or for worse) on cases that may affect labor rules, appoints the Federal Reserve Chief, etc., etc. It is definitely not necessary, but I thin someone who has been successful in business, especially in periods of time when there were less regulations and government restrictions, that would know that government’s job is to stay the hell out of the way. Trump has that experience. Carson, though a good man and a genius doctor, does not. If you don’t like Trump, that’s fine, but you can’t ignore his knowledge and experience in capitalism and free market enterprise as opposed to Carson’s lack of experience, or even Obama or perhaps a President Sanders who is an avowed Socialist.

Some doctors run several clinics so they do create jobs. I’d take an administrator/manager/director type over the stereotypical doctor type.

Larger issue is does the candidate possess that rare quality that motivates others to succeed. Those figure head types. Carson………not so much.

“It appears he was hyping HIS ability to create jobs as a Presidential Skill which it is not.”

Obama will not approve the Canadian pipeline. Trump will. Obama prevents jobs from being created. Trump will make sure jobs are created. Policy decisions matter.

“Uhh, Donald, since you apparently don’t understand conservatism at all, I’ll let you in on one of its most important tenets: Government does NOT create jobs either.”
Every single presidential candidate this cycle and the last and the one before that has promised to “create jobs”. This is not unique to Trump.

Especially in an economy that is on it’s last breath thanks to 12 yrs + of overspending and choking regulations.

VERY TRUE: Donald Trump says he has great affection for Ben Carson, but he’s not so sure Carson has the right experience to be president.

I would never vote for Carson as president. Especially after listening to him, hearing his thoughts and Ideas. If anyone thought Obama was not prepared, they'd have to reasonably conclude the same for Carson. Same with Paul and even more in his case because Paul has lots of baggage. Carson should be given the VA to clean up. Seriously.

Didn’t Zukerman play some game with his U.S. Citizenship a few years ago in Singapore?

How do you win a revolution when the presumptive leader has so many negatives of likely voters who definitely will not vote for him? Right now to break ahead of a pack of some 16 candidates is not that difficult. When the others start to peel off its not hard to envision a Cruz or Carson or Fiorina pulling up to the front. This is a horse race and Trump got off to a fine start with the big festering issue of immigration and this has enabled him to shape the debate. But if he continues to hammer at Carson, this might backfire with foot in horse-mouth disease. Beyond the immigration issue, Trump is mostly an empty suit unable to address major policy issues except for soaring platitudes.

Still haven't seen Trump fully unload on Obama.

Trump understands the power of positive. He is focusing on a positive future, not on a disastrous past and a disastrous present.

It could be a disastrous future too if some decide the conservative candidate isn't pure enough. Let's see what happens.

doctors are service providers, they help improve productivity in society, but they don’t actually create jobs. Doctors are necessary because people could get sick but society are better off without needing doctors at all

Donald Trump says he has great affection for Ben Carson, but he’s not so sure Carson has the right experience to be president.

So who would you all have to face down the IRS /BATF /EPA /Norks / Putin / ISIS and the Nuclear Iranians....?

1) A well spoken and exceptionally talented neurosurgeon

Or

2). A brash and exceptionally talented negotiator and billionaire business man who sports a Mullet hairdo...

Me I want someone like a 21st century Spartan

Understanding how jobs are created is knowledge Obama does not possess. We need a President who understands job and wealth creation or the US economy will never recover.

“Trump keeps bragging that he will be the “greatest jobs President ever”. What needs to happen is that the federal government needs to be scaled back, and Ben Carson is every bit as “qualified” to do that as Trump is.”

You are I believe intentionally misconstruing what Trump is saying. He is not talking about creating gov’t jobs and you know it. He will smooth the way via good policy for the private sector to create more jobs. He will do this by getting rid of Obama created executive orders, rules and regulations and by approving policies that are good for business. He’s a private sector businessman, for crying out loud. You just don’t like Trump.

How about in private practice...”

I have had doctors for clients for thirty years and have done quite well as a business and financial manager for them. If they had any business knowledge at all a business like mine wouldn’t be needed. Their knowledge base is even more lacking when they have received their funding through a government grant or been employed by a group or hospital. Carson might make a good Surgeon General or working with the VA on treatment issues. President, Vice President or responsibility for managing budgetary issues? No way IMO.
