When Scott Walker began his presidential bid several months ago, his resume and cover letter looked sterling: a conservative governor of a blue state in the Midwest, a young man with evangelical roots and a proven record of victory over liberal forces. Walker was simultaneously the unshakable fighter conservatives craved and the battle-tested, donor-approved executive the establishment could get behind.
But the rigorous course of the presidential campaign exposed the Wisconsin governors vulnerabilities on a national stage. Whats more, the rise of the political outsider, particularly Donald Trump, has overshadowed and undermined Walkers pitch.
In trying to navigate a jam-packed freeway, Walker seems to have trouble picking the conservative or moderate lane. Maneuverings over the past several months put the governor at risk of turning off both sides of the party and running off the road.
Among GOP candidates operating in this uncharted era of Trump domination, Walker has arguably taken the biggest hit.
A new Des Moines Register poll over the weekend found Walkers support falling in Iowa, the state essential to his campaign, amid the rise of political outsiders Trump and neurosurgeon Ben Carson. While Walkers favorability numbers remain notably high in the Hawkeye State72 percentonly 8 percent of likely caucus-goers there support him, compared to 17 percent in May. Meanwhile, Carsons support in Iowa has jumped from 10 percent to 18 percent; Trump has risen from 4 percent to 23 percent, putting him in the lead.
Amid the shift in poll numbers, Walker has tried to tap into primary voters frustration with the political system and the GOP, maintaining that experience should still be key in determining the next president.
I think the biggest spark for us is getting the message out that now's not the time to put in place someone who hasn't been tested before.

He stalled because he flipped-flopped.
His missteps call into question just who the idea guy is behind this guy.
My impression is that Walker might have gone on hi own initiative on that. He had a tightly controlled message that was working, but then he decided to veer.
Walker will never be POTUS .
Brad Dayspring. Etch-a-Sketch. Howdy Doody looks.
The donor class thought Walker and Rubio would be plan B to Jeb... both have fallen for good reason.
The establishment cannot adapt to the changes on the ground, they are locked into the old GOP ways and methods and planned on foisting a RINO as a conservative on voters as they did with the others...but voters are fed up with the uniparty failures and lies.
Ripe it was for Trump to come along...not to mention Cruz who has been taking it to the establishment and leadership. It isn’t enough to just take on the left...the GOP is infected with traitors and those also need to be exposed in order to fix what’s killing our country.
Cruz. Trump. Carson. 2016 the year of the anti-establishment fighters.
Walker is in over his head. Good governor. But looks like a howdy doody next to Trump. No gravitas. Not presidential timber. But he’s relatively young and will have another shot.
Mitch McConnells National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) hit man, some idiot named Brad Dayspring, does not intimidate me and will not silence me with his sleazy inside-the-beltway tactics. In fact, I am more fired up than ever.
neurosurgeon Ben Carson.
Will he force us to be micro chipped?
Will he be dictating to us what we have to eat?
We need a superstar to defeat the other side’s superstar.
politely stated. Thank you.
It’s all too transparent.
I don’t think so. Walker has no charisma. I start dozing off when listening to his speeches. Very dull speaker. As bad as Jeb Bush.
Carson is too mild mannered to survive in the DC jungle of cannibals. We need a tough guy who can brow beat the professional politicians in to submission.
They all look like Howdy Doody next to Trump.
We've had defective politician candidates for decades. Trump has shown that clearly.
“neurosurgeon Ben Carson.
Will he force us to be micro chipped?
Will he be dictating to us what we have to eat?”
What does this even mean? I seem to have missed the point.
The ONLY REASON a candidates flip-flops as much as Walker has done is because he has CONTROLLERS (i.e., big money people) that call him to have him ‘correct’ his statements...that he listens to them just shows he’s a pathetic candidate.
He hasn’t flipped or flopped. There is a concerted effort by unionistas to see him knifed in the back. All that does is hurt conservatism and our cause.
