We put kittens in our hearts :)
My cat came wandering home one winter after having done the same thing in someone’s car. She had very deep cuts to her head and jaw area. I always bang on my hood whenever I’ve parked outside before I start my car so no harm befalls any neighborhood cats.
The Weather Girl Kristina is not too bad either, what with her pleasant voice and hourglass figure.
One of my childhood pet cats lost a front leg that way. She was a total sweetheart before and after. I remember her with her stump shaved bare by the vet and the row of stitches. She stayed in bed — a cardboard box with a blanket —for about a week and was obviously in pain during that time but would purr when you came near. She recovered and got around just fine on her three legs.

When they're not fighting fires, I'd rather they be out in the public DOING SOMETHING to earn those big bucks you claim they make..........Sheesh!
That’s how I got my old kitty Pontiac. :)
Get a cat out of the engine compartment?
Yeah back in ‘77. I couldn’t figure what the noise coming from the engine was as I went down to the Safeway that night.
Got my flashlight out. Put on my welder’s gloves (always recommended when dealing with scared felines)and wrestled it loose.
One of our barn cats. Last time it decided to try to get warm inside the truck.
One way or another, they find us.
Mine was in a Cadillac belonging to one of my sister’s aerobic clients. I happened to be there babysitting when the woman came in asking for help to get the little kitten out of her car. After all, there are lots of places for a cat, especially that small, to hide, and they move fast.
We opened the hood and on top of the air filter eas the kitty. He started to move but I was fast enough to catch him. He became my Dutch, named for the bunny because he looked like that.
And then there is my beloved Ashley, who got a little nicked and ran off and hid in shock, inside a distant groundhog hole in the wild. My beloved dog helped me find him and drag him out, he was in such shock. He habitually went into cars and this one belonged to a couple my mom was tutoring; they stopped after driving a half mile realizing something was wrong. He was terrified by then, so no problem with the car, only groundhog holes.
I mean no disrespect, but if you’re out in the boondocks, there is a good chance the activity will be next to nil. Especially anything actually fire-related.
Great stories.
Another of our barn cats decided to take a nap atop the left rear axel spring. I had to run an errand about 6 miles away. It was a new truck and I was cussing the autoworkers that assembled it as it suddenly developed a squealing noise in the rear suspension.
When I got to the hardware store I kept hearing the noise after I got out. A quick inspection showed what the problem was.
That old cat got the ride if its life.
Perhaps not many fires, but plenty of car accidents and farm injuries. Plus a fair number of medical calls for those agnncies that staff EMT’s.
