There are none so mendacious as those who insist they are truthful.

St. Louis teen Mendacious Washington was shot and killed by police last night after wounding three cops. Shortly afterward the local CVS was looted and burned to the ground.

He was an aspiring rapper and recently expressed interest in attending college.

His mother was quoted as saying He dindu nuffin!

The mendacious nature of American politics has left the American people starved for a leader with character.

Trump’s comments are audacious
But at least he entertains us
A carney
Spouting blarney
Of which a lot is pretty mendacious

Bill or Hill: Which one is more mendacious?
Both are liars, prodigious, bodacious
Each can parse and deflect
But I’ve come to suspect
She’s fallacious while he is fellatious

Here is what some of the great writers and philosophers of our time have said about the act and art of lying.

“History is a set of lies agreed upon.” — Napoleon Bonaparte

“Perhaps we have been guilty of some terminological inexactitudes.” — Winston Churchill

“There are three kinds of lies: lies, damn lies, and statistics.” — Benjamin Disraeli

“Lying to ourselves is more deeply ingrained than lying to others.” — Fyodor Dostoevsky

“No man has a good enough memory to be a successful liar.” — Abraham Lincoln

“You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.” — Abraham Lincoln

“I’m not upset that you lied to me, I’m upset that from now on I can’t believe you.” — Friedrich Nietzsche

“The visionary lies to himself, the liar only to others.” — Friedrich Nietzsche

“By the time you swear you’re his,
Shivering and sighing.
And he vows his passion is,
Infinite, undying.
Lady make note of this —
One of you is lying.”
— Dorothy Parker

“How subject we old men are to this vice of lying.” — William Shakespeare, King Henry IV, Part II

“Anything is better than lies and deceit!” — Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina

“If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.” — Mark Twain

If all the mendacious politicians who attend the joint session of congress next month (when they are addressed by Pope Francis) were somehow to be instantaneously vaporized, the halls of power in D.C. would become a veritable ghost town, there would be a vast improvement in congress, and it would smell a lot better down there too.

Any “barf alert” thread is going to feature an article involving someone either mendacious or plain out loony. (Which is why I love FReeper comments!)

The Clintons are the best example
Of “mendacious” by any tradition
Their photos are in dictionaries
Right beside of the definition-

Whether the meaning of “is” is
What is making up their chatter
If confronted, Bill or Hillary
Will just say it doesn’t matter

And if some facts do not fit
Into the narrow, royal style
Of the wannabe queen Hillary
She’ll dig up another FBI file...

I thought of Burl Ives in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” too-the first time I heard that word was when my mom took us as little kids to the movie, and Ives as Big Daddy was complaining about too much mendacity-I liked the sound of the word and we were saying it when we got home. My dad asked us where we got that and we told him-and he asked my mom why she had taken us to see a movie that clearly was intended for adults...
