Preppers are the ones that'll survive long after the rest of us have gone
These days the world is a scary place to live in.
If there's not an asteroid on its way to obliterate us or terrorists plotting our imminent downfall, there's the dangers of giant online data hacks or complete economic collapse.
But when the end does arrive, there are a few people who aren't just able to cope with the apocalypse - they've been actively preparing for it.
These people call themselves 'preppers' or 'survivalists' and they belong to a vast underground community. When the ATMs stop running or the internet goes down, they'll be the ones that make it out alive.
"Its a huge community, especially in the States. But in the UK it's becoming more and more recognised," explained Steve Hart, the man behind the UK's top prepping website: ukpreppersguide.co.uk.

Not it they cut the optic lines as has happened more that a few times
A major ice storm a couple years ago knocked down most of the antennas on top of buildings that let them connect to the payment systems, so you could walk into Walgreens and they had power but no connection to verify payment card info.
There was a line of people begging to buy items from cigarettes to cold medicine. I held up a $20 bill, said I can pay for what I have, and was ushered to the front of the line. I paid for diapers and stuff for a sick toddler and walked out. Only after I did that did others even seem to think of trying cash.
My point exactly. Out of milk and bread stop by the store on the way home pick up a few things get up to the cashier swipe your card and nothing. A few days later you are down to a can of Dinty Moore and some stell heels of a loaf of bread for a dinner for four.
Don’t forget the Spam!
If the outage was to last more than a few days I wouldn’t hold up a $20 for nothing. It would be like hanging a pork chop around your neck and stepping into the lion’s cage.
And would they be able to give change correctly if you had cash and could add up the costs on paper? Doubt it.

We did several years ago when we had an ice storm. I'm sitting here thinking now why did we have to have the generator running? Maybe our computers were dead from using up juice? Anyway, I would get the generator going about once a day then my mother, myself and my daughter would all go running for our computers so we could tell everyone we were still without electricity!
A couple of nicely placed nukes or a massive Carrington event solar storm would have this nation back in the old west days.
One of these events will happen sooner or later. Heres hoping im already taking a dirt nap when it does finally happen.
Anyone have some interesting ways of storing things outside of your home because of limited storage space inside the home? I’m talking things that you wouldn’t really want exposed to the elements and also kept at a reasonably stable temperature.

That is interesting. Thanks.
Depends on what you are talking about.
You can get some get some 4”pvc and some caps. Glued up it’s completely water tight and you can bury it.
Need something bigger you can get old pickle drums. They are made of food grade plastic with a screw cap and seal water tight. You can also bury them no problem.
Who knew ‘fear mongering’ was Anglophile? ;-)
If the internet goes down, slow down and enjoy life. It’s not only the scenery you miss by going to fast - you also miss the sense of where you are going and why.
