There's a lot of talk recently - ignorant accusations, actually - that somehow, Trump is playing Straw Man for Hitlery. To those GOPe jackboot lickers, I must ask: What DOES Trump stand to gain that he doesn't already have by playing the straw man?
This is a very simple, yet important question. Of course, the answer is: NOTHING, which entirely invalidates these accusations. We all know Trump isn't just going to jump in and play straw man out of the kindness of his heart. What's more, even if he WAS playing the part, the fact is that his popularity cuts a rather wide swath from left to right. So even if he DID run 3rd party, the truth is that there is just as much probability that he would siphon votes AWAY from Hitlery, as the probability that he would siphon those votes from the GOP candidate.
In the end, no matter how you slice or dice it, these accusations are political fodder at best, downright ignorant at worst.
That doesn't compute. If he gets the R nod, he's just going to suddenly stop running and let hitlery take over? I don't think so. Doesn't match his ego. Even if he did, he would only do so if he stood something to gain. So again, what does he stand to gain that he doesn't already have? Again, the answer is NOTHING.
If he runs 3rd Party, his chances of winning are better than Nader or Perot's ever were. He has a wide appeal, and would siphon votes from both left and right, so that doesn't make sense either. Even if it did, it STILL does not answer the question, what does he stand to gain from doing it? Once again, the answer is NOTHING.
CO has an "after it is over we get to vote for Jeb!" late primary. I feel your pain.
Ego, first and foremost, but also perhaps a few other reasons is my guess:
He already has almost every other prize a man can have, money, fame.....
Besides, what does he have to lose? The people who hate him, or merely think him a buffoon won’t think any differently if he makes an execrable showing and is laughed out of the race, the people who love/like him will not think any less of him if he ends up being much worse at debate and/or running an actual campaign than he is at stirring things up.....
I think, also, he DOES have a few actual core beliefs and he is, on the right, like Saunders on the left going to consider it a ‘win’ if he forces everyone else to address these.
He can spend 2 billion dollars running and STILL have more money than I could ever imagine having, so why not?
“He got pushed too far by those trying to force him out of the race...” A very good point. That and the idiots who have openly ridiculed him- NOTHING would say ‘vengeance’ like taking the oath of office would :-)
Trump doesn't like to lose. If he thought he would lose, he wouldn't be in the game. If it were ego, and he just plain and simple wasn't concerned about the $$$, he would have run long ago. Let's face it: Other than Cruz, the field this year is extremely weak - the same old ho hum GOPe CoC candidates running - nothing of them at all exciting. And America is tired of the same old same old from Repubicrats. He gains NOTHING to run just for his ego, and stands to lose that AND $$$ if he loses.
[Cruz supporter]
It boils down to this.
These guys have a man in the race that is not Trump.
Trump comes in and says the things their guys is so far too chickensh*t to say, and reaping the rewards for it.
In total disbelief they have to formulate a stupid conspiracy theory as to why Trump is allowing himself to be attacked personally and financially. And the best load of BS they can come up with is that Hillary just ASKED him to run to help her win or he is just doing it for attention.
Again, never mind the fact that he has taken personal hits and financial hits. NAH! He’s just doing it for the hell of it or to help out Hillary....for some reason that they cant quite string together.
From what I can tell it seems like 95% of the Trump conspiracy pushers are the Scott Walker people because Walker isn’t doing much more than giving bland speeches and not getting his shirt dirty. Outside of FR, it’s obviously the GOPers seeing JeBush tanking.
Ha.....Trump is permanently inside the OODA Loop of the MSM, GOPe and the Dims.
“No insults, just truth.”
That’s a load of manure.
I've noticed that. Rather shameful, if you ask me.
>> If you are going to insult people right off the bat like that
If the boot doesn’t fit, ignore it. ;-)
Well he’s getting plenty of that, guess you could say this is the biggest DEAL of his life
Gonna answer the question, or just stand there and whine? It’s a serious, and very important question. The GOPe jackboot lickers are doing everything possible to discredit Trump, and it ain’t working. If there’s any vitriol, it’s deserved. As mentioned above, the truth is that the GOP is dead - we gave them wins in 2010 and 2014, but you can’t tell that by the way they are acting. Like many Americans, I’m sick of the BS, and won’t fall for it again. Anyone willing to vote GOP for the sake of voting GOP is a traitorous moron at this point.
I can almost get on board with this, but wouldn't there be better ways of driving the discussion? I mean, if this were the case, wouldn't he get solidly behind Cruz and let Cruz do the bulk of the 'dirty work'?
No, I’m not going to take your bait, for reasons I already explained to you.
No, I won’t. This is standard practice from certain Trump supporters around here, to make those kinds of accusations against anyone who questions their guy on anything.
It’s childish and stupid, and I will point that out when I see it.
Coming from someone who, rather than participating in the debate, only posts to whine and moan. Again, it's a serious question. You refuse to answer because you know that the answer only invalidates the accusations against him.
There you go with the logic again!
Somebody has been buying the office of the Presidency for a long time. Homegrown or not I have no idea. Probably some "global" faction. I see a candidate now who seems to be of, by and for the USA. I know he isn't the perfect conservative. But he is the opposite of "the lesser evil". He isn't second up from the bottom, he is one down from the top (Cruz).
There’s no debate to participate in, you just posted this thread to harangue other FReepers, as you are doing right now, proving my point.
Really, 3 years after watching Romney run the un-campaign you can’t phantom the idea that somebody might get the party nod and not actually try to win the general election?! This will be the first Clinton campaign since ‘92 he hasn’t donated to... at least not with a check.
Better than Nader or Perot isn’t saying much. I’ve got about as much shot of being president as Nader and Perot. He doesn’t really have side appeal, most people think he’s an @#$#$^%^, because he is.
I already answered you, sorry if you don’t like the answer but it’s rather obvious that the guy that has donated to every single Clinton campaign since ‘92 is comfortable with no gain other than having a Clinton in the White House again. He has a long track record of being willing to put money to that cause with no other gain.
