Theres a reason why the phrase once in a blue moon means rare
and Friday nights lunar event proves it.
There will be a blue moon July 31
no, the orbiting space rock isnt going to trip out and change colors, but it means it will be a second full moon within the same month.

Can be easily seen here in the Houston area. No clouds hiding it. Also, for some reason it is completely oval shaped. Unique and Gorgeous.

It’s actually darting in and out of the clouds up here in the Vampire State. Kinda kool.

Thanks jazusamo. It is a composite photo that I took back in 2011 looking out over the High Sierra of California.

It is often hugging the side of the freeway .... looking gorgeous!!!

I had a pretty good suspicion it was the High Sierra from previous posts. It’s been many years but the night sky up there is a thing of beauty and impossible to count the stars.

This is really unique then. It is egg shaped and not circular. How could this happen? You guys here in this thread report a circular moon so why does it appear to be egg shaped here in Houston?

I shot the photo while camping at the 8,500 foot level in the Inyo Mountains, just south of Big Pine, looking across the Owens Valley toward the Sierra.

Found an image on Google, won't post it here, though ;)
