A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

Thanks. I couldn’t get it all in as it was written so I had to use my editing pencil.

Thee message is still the same.

Now that my hair is longer (beyond shoulder length) it has some natural wave to it, but the minute I try to style it, the curl goes straight until I spritz it with water. Everyone else in my family has naturally curly hair. *sheesh* Why me?

I found the kitten using a search on “stripy kitten pictures.” Felt like something different this morning!

Off to the gym in a few minutes. This week is full of appointments.

Nice!

Our app says it’s 45 degrees wind NE at 12 umphs with 30.41 in/hg and falling.

I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but the breeze is not fun.

I guess that’s better than being full of disappointments.

This has been one of the worst laundry days I’ve experienced in a long time. I stood in that cold air for 30 minutes, waiting for Robert to come and open the door. The clubhouse is supposed to open at 0700.

I was there at 0640, as Robert usually comes early for me, and opens it. That gives me a little jump on the day for the other things I have to do.

About 0650, I heard some noise inside, and walked around to see one of the maintenance men’s truck. I knocked on the maintenance door to no avail. So I walked back up, and one of the neighbors came up the walk with a coffee cup in his hand. He asked if it was open (yes, I just wanted to punish myself) and he went back and woke up his neighbor, Robert.

In the meantime, I walked back around to the maintenance door and Mike was coming out. I asked him if he could please open the door so I could do the laundry. “That’s not my job.” Gr-r-r-r-r.

Robert finally came, and me being who I am, I didn’t get on his case. I got the laundry done, but standing out in the cold for 30 minutes did my back no good. Since it was clothing and not bedding, I didn’t dry them, as I was anxious to get home and take another morphine.

I waited for the pill to work, about 30 minutes, and then went in to hang the clothes on the drying rack for undies and hangers for outerwear. By the time I was done bending and stooping, the pain was so bad I was shaking and couldn’t straighten up.

Wednesday is my pain clinic appointment and I have to fill out the papers to get started on the lower back.

I went to Walmart to get a couple of things (using up the freebie coupons I had, and Walmart was packed. Ungh. I had two coupons for “up to $4.00” on Smucker’s products, so I bought some jams and some hot fudge sauce for my little ice cream cups when I’ve been a good girl! :o] I thought she would take the price off of two items, but she filled in $4.00 on each coupon and took that off my bill! WHOA!!!

(And by the way, the steroid went up $4 when I got it on Friday.) It had been going down for the last two years. *sigh*

While I was sitting outside after I got back from Walmart, waiting for the mailman, talking to one of the ol’ geezers, the wind came up. I had my industrial strength coat on, but nothing on my hands. At least the coat has a hood.

Right now, it’s 51, and what little wind there is is right out of the north. I was so glad when the mail came so I could come in and warm up.

I would take my weather today over yours, because you’re so doggone close to the water. That can’t be fun!!

Did you have a good Thanksgiving?

God is clearly preparing you for your mave back to Alaska when the large pile of excrement hits the air excitement device.

And how can that mechanic possibly know how to fix washers and dryers if he doesn’t even know how to open a flipping door?

Both daughters came over, so that made it a good Thanksgiving. My wife is also learning to stress less over the meal (although it’s still a lot).

You?

Actually, it was a maintenance man for the property, and he could have opened the door if he had wanted. He is close to retirement and has nothing to lose by being rude to tenants. I told one of his counterparts about it, when he came in, and he said there was no excuse for that and is going to tell the supervisor.

I loved what I remember of Alaska, but I was five when we came back to the States, and as an ol’ mama-geezer, the prospect of moving back to the cold places I’ve lived is not a pleasant.

My Thanksgiving was like most of them, these years. I stayed home with a frozen turkey dinner for my feast. And I said a prayer of Thanksgiving for all I have, for all my FRiends and friends and the fact that I’m relatively healthy.

That’s basically all I need, and I’m very grateful! :o])

In one of Rich Mullins’ songs he’s praying and he says to God, “I’d rather fight you for things that I don’t really want than take what you give that I need.”

Guilty as charged.

So, is it safe to vent about Jurassic World here? Has everyone who plans to watch seen it?

Another Rich Mullins quote:

Everybody I know says they need just one thing.
What they really mean is they need just one thing more.

I’m happy with what I have because I have had more, and I have had an awful lot less! Several times! I can’t count the times I’ve had to start over with nothing but my pride and the family paintings.

So I never take anything for granted, and I always thank the Lord every day for what I have and tell Him how much I appreciate His acceptance of my rebellious spirit and actions.

I would like to see it because I have the other three Jurassic Park movies. I love movies! I wish I had Netflix, again.

I'll write in white font to avoid running any surprises. Just select the space below if you want to read.

Does it make any sense that the professionals who have been working with dinosaurs for a decade would just forget everything when a set of negative readings come in? That woman really let men into the paddock BEFORE asking where the tracker put the dinosaur? Does that make any sense at all? I mean, if it has been absolutely everyone's first day maybe.
