A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

We did miss you, Girl!

I hope you’re feeling better now. <3

I put on 1.2 pounds in 2 weeks. Don’t know how but ok.

Can I have an Advent Kitteh?

My sister went somewhere yesterday and got a 12 cup coffee maker for me for 7.99. She does Black Friday. I’ve never done that, unless you count going to the grocery store or WAWA.

I’m so happy. I was making instant coffee out of my tea kettle,

I hope everyone had a lovely turkey day

The last kitty looks like the turkey.

The middle kitteh looks like my late beloved girl.

Maybe I need some coffee. I just had a two-hour nap. Dang. That’s scary.

Coffee sounds like a great idea, but I guess I’ll have tea.

I will have to check and see if I have any Earl Grey tea, as that’s about the only kind I really like. A neighbor gave me some Jasmine tea, which I haven’t even seen since Igor passed away, but I may have some Constant Comment. That’s pretty good, for tea...

Meanwhile, I have to take my pills and eat something.

We didn’t have lunch on our outing, so everyone’s having a meal of leftovers or cereal or something.

I had some leftovers, too. Not very satisfying, but I don’t feel like cooking — it’s too much effort, today.

I had some chicken with sauce, left from Wednesday, and a bit of mashed potatoes, which I don’t remember when they originated, but they were back for Thanksgiving. If they’re not gone by tomorrow evening, I’ll throw them out!

I just have regular tea. Lipton, I think. Nothing fancy. My teapot is a white china one I got from Harrods. Such a touristy thing yes I know, you put the tea leaves in it and steep. I use tea bags and use that for company. Else I use a kettle and a mug.

Been eating so much the last couple of days. Just been ravenous. I think I’m just feeling , well not depressed but upset, with myself so I’m eating everything thst isn’t nailed down.

Do you have any apples? That’s what turn to when the urge to Just Eat Anything hits.

I think, when I next go shopping, I will get a pan of frozen chicken enchiladas. I can cook them, then freeze them. Why didn’t I think of that before you mentioned turkey enchiladas earlier in the week?

It’s time to make my grocery list and it’s looking ugly as most of the items aren’t food. At least, that list is a lot longer, for sure, including clothes detergent and dryer sheets. And then there are the pills that I don’t order from iherb.com. *sigh*

I have an appointment at the pain management clinic on Wednesday, when I will also get my prescription for morphine, and Thursday is the MRI on my neck. Again.

A neighbor is going to take me to the MRI, as they won’t do it unless I have a driver. I need to give him gas money, but that’s really going to smart. I don’t know how else to pay him. It’s almost 20 miles in. :o[

And I think that takes care of the medical until after the first of the year. I still have to fill out some paperwork for “an additional body part” for the pain clinic on my lower back. They may not be able to give me any relief, but I would even take steroid injections again if need be to ease that pain.

I can never be sufficiently grateful that I’m young and spry!

Actually, since I’ve been on herbal supplements and taking coloidial silver, I feel better than I have in years. The lower back pain has been with me since I was 14, or maybe earlier, but that’s when I first recall it.

Had it been treated then, it wouldn’t be so bad now, but the arthritis there is so advanced that I can hardly walk when I first get up from sitting or sleeping. The neck pain was gradual, and I had epidurals in it in 1996.

Odd, but I never thought anything could be done for the lower back...

I’ve had significant back pain only when I’m pregnant.

It’s unfair that Bob can be so young and spry, and yet so distinguished. He should be a Senator.
