The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.
Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:
Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.
I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.
There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.
You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!
You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!
Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!
(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)
Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.
So, what can we do about it?
We can get drunk.
I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.
This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.
And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...
DRINK!
My impression is that she might stay in after this term if she can get back on a ship.
That would be good for her, I know. I wish her luck! We need service members like her! <3
Things are going to be interesting if we ever get an administration that cares about defense. She could experience some excitement!
I’m sure some excitement would be right up her alley! I wish her well, in any case!
The wind is VERY cold, and ripping through here at 26 mph. *shiver*
Mt. Charleston and the whole top of the range in front of it is covered in snow and it looks so beautiful!
Because I didn’t go to church yesterday for the Stake Conference, they renamed the ward and we are now assigned a different building. I didn’t find out when it starts. I’ve lived here almost 10 years, and I think they have shifted things around at least that many times. But the new name was a surprise!
The church is growing so fast!
That could go either way.
I joined the USAF in January of 1982. That was about 1 year after Ronald Reagan took office. Of course, everyone thought his sabre-rattling ways would cause WW III and incinerate the planet.
Instead, everything was quiet for my entire tour.
We still pack a big punch. If someone took office who looked like he (or she) might be willing to take a swing, it might quiet down again.
I braved the nasty cold wind and went to the mailbox, and there, I found a package from my son, addressed to “Mom.”
Inside was a really cute little green frog kitchen timer!! I LOL’d!
I know my screen name here is Monkey Face, but long before Monkey Face made her debut, I was Frog Lady! And I still collect frogs, AND the occasional monkey!!
Well, here’s to some sunshine on such a Monday.
Did you measure the speed of your kitchen, yet? How fast is it?
Well, the lasagna came out in exactly an hour and ten minutes, so I’m good to go...
Next to my GLK, I like it better than anything I’ve gotten all year! Two things that make me smile!! :o])
I’m glad the GLK is doing well for you.
Not so much for me. The video cut out after only one week.
;)
The wind isn’t quite as strong, but it’s still awfully doggone cold out! The sun is finally shining, but I’m still not ready to go out there!
I’m so glad my laundry is done for one more week, but I really miss having my own washer. I’ve been hoping that somehow, I can come up with $1500 so I can buy a house and live happily ever after in my own place — with my own washer and dryer.
I keep hoping that GLK can facilitate that... ;o]
(I am SUCH a dreamer...)
Well, I suppose you could use GLK to hit someone over the head who is carrying $1500 in cash.
Otherwise I’m not sure how that could happen.
Busy here with cleaning and stuff. I need to go to Walmart, but I’m waiting on a phone call. Either they’ll call, or Bill will get home and I can send him, or DP will get home and one of us can go ... or I can go tonight after 9:00.
*tagline*
Good one.
My energy dwindled after I got the clothes hung up.
Maybe tomorrow the energy will return. I’m going to Walmart early (before the wind starts) and will get the pie-making stuffs, so I won’t have to fight the crowds and may even get the things I need before they are picked over.
It was rather strange to go get my mail without stopping at the ramada for a chat with the cronies. None of us like the cold, and especially those of us who use blood thinners. :o]
Actually, the only failure comes when a person gives up on himself. Not me!
You’re a good cheerleader!
How about the failure to return fire?
LOL! OK!
Suffering from depression for so many years, I have learned to pull myself up by the bootstraps and move on. If I can do it, so can other people!
But thanks!!!
Don’t know about that...I’m a reactive person: You shoot at me, I can guarantee you will get return fire, probably bigger and better!
