A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

No just started yesterday. 7 inches. 18 this morning. First snow and 1st snowblow of the year. Took me forever to get the blower to start. Not a easy blow yesterday. 2hours. When snow is this low fighting with bare ground some places.

Congratulations! We have sunshine and mid-60s today. Everyone feels so relieved after weeks of rain.

I’m going to bed, shortly, as my kidneys are killing me. I found a couple of bottles of water in the back of the fridge so I don’t have to drink the tap water, at least for tomorrow. That tap water stuff is the most foul concoction I’ve ever tasted — no wonder the kidneys are rebelling!

One of my nephews suggested turmeric for my arthritis, but I don’t know if I’ve ever heard of that as a remedy. Maybe, if my kidneys calm down by tomorrow, I will feel up to researching turmeric.

Friday, I will go for the chest x-ray, as that’s on a walk-in basis, and maybe one day next week, I can get into Vegas as a walk-in for the pulmonary test. Monday I will have a fasting blood test, but because it’s fasting, I will have to go in to Vegas to get it done at 0530. I couldn’t get an appointment here any earlier than 1100 for several weeks, so the option is the one I know is open. I can’t fast for so many hours without problems.

So that’s the progress so far. I have to wait for Friday to make appointments for the other two, but I’m still faced with getting a ride to and from the MRI, no matter when it’s scheduled. They won’t do it if I don’t have an escort. Period.

Well, it looks like I missed a lot. One of our recently-promoted uniformed types got an award Tuesday afternoon so I left early to see that and had Veteran's Day off. The thread hasn't been, shall we say, UP since then.

T-C, hope all is OK.

Face, you might find someone in Nevada who has some extra time to drive you around. I hear there's a guy who just lost his job who is supposed to really really care about people who have needs. His name is Harry something. Reid maybe? Perhaps he would be willing to take care of you personally???

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Sorry, I just couldn't keep a straight face through that one.

Maybe when it grows another 8-10” I will cut it and donate the hair.

My son did that.
