A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

I think I will try to file some today, or at least sort the growing pile of papers. It never seems to end, even though I try not to print EVERYthing I generate on the computer! LOL!

I can’t believe August is half over. It has been hard finding something to do with myself since May, but on the other hand, time slips by and I don’t even realize it. *sigh*

And I’m still somewhat depressed by it all.

Good idea. I have stuff I should be doing, too, rather than just sitting here ...

I think I’ll go scrub something, since I’m already dirty.

I thought I bought white trash bags when I shopped the last time and I went to use them yesterday (I have a wastebasket in every room) and they are just small wastebasket bags. So I have nothing to use in the baskets. And two are full.

But everything will have to wait until my body wakes up. The mind is functioning slowly, but the body — not at all...

I get the wrong size bags, too.

Just fill up lots of little ones, I guess.

That’s not even a feasible idea. These aren’t even the size of a Walmart bag, and they have no handles to tie off! LOL! I’m using a green garbage bag for now, but it looks ugly in the middle of the living room. The other rooms are too small for it if I expect to navigate safely.

*sigh*

I’ve quit filing. I now scan everything into the computer and either recycle or shred the original.

Speaking of being dirty, when I came in from walking the dog last night a guy got onto the elevator with a nice SLR camera. I asked if he was professional or ameture and he said he was professional. I asked who he worked for and he said, “Hillary Clinton.”

I had to shower for a half-an-hour before I felt clean.

I was going to get a picture of some white-trash bags but the pictures Google came up with were mostly NSFW (not too bad, but not something I wanted to leave on my screen).

Anyway, we use the plastic bags we get from the cash registers.

I have large office-sized waste baskets, which is just an old habit. I have one small waste basket and I have to empty that thing every few days. I use the Walmart grocery bags for that.

I would scan everything, but I would spend the entire day on my feet, trying to get it done, and that would never work. My printer/scanner/copier is at eye-level to me when I’m sitting at my desk.

But yes, except for a few things that I have to keep the originals for, everything else could be scanned, ideally.

We’ve had way more rain, thunder and lightning up here than is normal - not really the monsoon weather that is expected. Thunderstorm and lightning activity have been epic! I’d love to send rain where it is needed. We are so green! James says he hasn’t seen Northeastern Arizona this green since he was a child. So much for camping out while finishing the house..... Need to sell the Airstream soon so there is $$$ to finish the roof, windows and doors.

You will need a roof, window, and doors for winter!

It sounds like whatever you want to call it, the last three years have not been boring! What a series of adventures! LOL!

It’s good to hear from you, LoM.

Mr Bill is having some fuel problems now, but as soon as I can get him checked out, I don’t think it will take much to fix him.

How so? Every time I try to go read it to see what you're talking about my browser closes.

By the way, when I was a little kid I used to love all the scary movies.

Now when I watch a scary movie I just think of what’s going on in Washington and I crack up at the lack of imagination of the scary movie makers.

Zombies, vampires, werewolves, witches, no problem. But Congress? Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek.

How is it even possible that “Pitter, Twitter, and Resolve” isn’t on YouTube?

Yes, I understand. I’d like to think that optimistic people will slowly begin to spread more throughout the population, in a kind of social evolution that ends with everyone realizing that friendliness and cooperation yield better results than backstabbing and antagonism.

And then I try to figure out how I can sell that idea as the science fiction scenario that it is.

I remember having to floor the clutch to get him started properly, but I don’t recall if it was when the engine was cold, or hot. Fuel pressure switch might be the issue. Mr Bill doesn’t shift too well if the clutch pedal isn’t floored.

We haven’t had much luck with weather cooperating with our plans to get the Airstream ready for transport to where it will be sold. The funds are needed to finish the roof and put in windows and doors. I’d post photos if I knew how so you could see.... House is not occupy ready, yet. Plumbing is roughed in and wiring needs an expert (inspector said some major things were wrong!) I paid those idiots a fortune and they didn’t even care to do things right. I am disgusted and sick at heart. Now James is sick and he is hurt, physically.... we have to pitch a tent in this weather....

The first time I start it, it’s fine, and the clutch thing has never been a problem. Now, after it’s been driven, the second time I start it, I have to floor the accelerator and hope it will catch.

It acts like it’s flooded, but that can’t be it...no carburetor. But it could be a cousin to that, and I can’t recall what the name of it is.

Hopefully, you will get the Airstream sold and be able to get the roof on and at least most of the windows in before winter. I keep you both in my prayers. Here’s hoping James will recover quickly! *HUGS*
