A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

It’s warm and humid here. Jake got himself shut in the bathroom closet for a while. I told him that wouldn’t happen if he didn’t go in there ...

I need to go to A-Plus Vacuums and get more bags for the Riccar.

The garbage truck is here, waking lazy folks in the usual noisy fashion. They used to be as regular as clockwork, but the last couple of times, they have varied immensely, once even coming at 1330. Eh...?

It’s only going to be 63 today, and I need to try and find a lightweight neck scarf, next time I get some money. I just hate going out with my throat exposed, as I usually end up with a sore throat and clogged ears. I hate that.

I don’t know about the pizza party today. I think I’d rather have it tomorrow, as it will be almost 10 degrees warmer than today.

My vacuum doesn’t use those bags, but when it comes to emptying the debris cup, I almost wish it was a bag so I could just toss the whole thing.

The Dyson has a bin I can empty, and the Riccar uses bags. I don’t know which I prefer.

I guess it’s time to pull myself together ...

I’m trying to pull myself together, too, but for the second day in a row, I have The S-L-O-W-s.

The storm glass has lots of crystals about half way up, so I’m thinking the weather won’t be nice for long.

Ohyes...and my thermal coffee mug got a leak somewhere inside so it was leaking into the space between the liner and the mug and it left drips everywhere. I just tossed the darn thing, and now I have nothing to carry with me to the ramada. Dang.

It’s always nicer to have a cup of coffee (or, this time of year, hot cider) to talk over!

Well, that bites.
I guess it’s Plan B for the vacuum cleaner.
It’s so hard for me to stay awake these days. I try to force myself to find something to keep me busy, but it isn’t easy, and by 1400, I’m ready for bed.
But even there, I’m fighting to stay awake. I don’t know what’s wrong with me.

I don’t know about you, but I blame my problems on being born on a planet with the wrong phasing.

The current bag is still usable. I just hope it will last until Tuesday.

I just filled out the 30-page re-certification form for my appointment Monday morning. I think 10 pages have been added in the last year. *sheesh*

And I got the copies made of the utilities and whatever else they wanted. In making copies, I just realized my SNAP benefits are valid until April 2017! BONUS!

I also filled out a form for the insurance company that wants my money but not very badly. Still, I need something to cover the cost of the cremation. That ain’t free! So I hope they accept it.

It’s still cold, but since I’m not going to Walmart for the prescription, I’m not going to worry. Although, I’m sure the gang will meet at the ramada, and I will tell them it’s too cold for a pizza party just now.

If you were a man the standard response would be, “Don’t talk about your wife like that.”

That would make the “until Tuesday” part of the phrase really strange, however.

If they’re still using actual paper for the re-certification forms they should know the pages breed.

It just gets worse every year. Now we have to give them permission to pry into our bank accounts among other things, and then there are the pages concerning whether you are able-bodied to work for part of your housing, and then they added a “reasonable accommodation” page...or is it pages?

My rent will go up this time, and my utility allowance will go down once more, until I am paying the entire bill. Right now, I pay everything over $17. Last year, it was everything over $25. And the cost of living is going through the roof. *sigh*

At least my efforts at filing paid off...I was able to find everything I needed.

When we lived in PA our son used to say “Welcome to PA, where it’s our job to know your business.

We were a little cynical about their regulation of our home school. We had moved from Texas where they pretty much don’t.

Pennsylvania is widely considered to have the worst homeschool law in the country.

Good news about your filing neatness. I have more room, so I have more places to lose things!

I’m working with the little boys on Envirothon study. They have to give a 5-minute discussion of their topics tomorrow. I’ll need to print out some soil and wildlife manuals again. I guess we gave them away.

I thought they were bad here 15 years ago, but they are really ugly, now. Thanks to all the welfare fraud. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve personally known of felons living in public housing. GAH!

One of the neighbors just invited me to the pizza party that I thought was just something that only the ol’ fogies were in on, here on my patio. He said he told Zeke, and Cindy and .... couldn’t get in touch with the other Cindy (my neighbor with the little dog) and I thought, “The NERVE of him to invite all those people to MY patio, where I’ve only got three chairs.”

Now, he says it will be at the ramada, so even if we didn’t want to join in but just wanted to talk, we can’t. I think he should have at least discussed the extra people when the subject came up yesterday.

Anyway, I had a breathing treatment and will stay in here where it’s warm and hope to unwind, now that I have all the forms filled out.

I still have one for the pain clinic (almost as thick) but since my appointment has been postponed by three weeks, I won’t mess with it now.
