A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

(I know i'm going to get into trouble for this...)

I was almost done my Spanish letter when Kathleen unplugged the computer.

Did you remember to follow the teaching to our LORD and Creator?
Remember, Jesus Saves.

Jesus, and the 'Dark one' had a squabble over who was best at computing skills...
They took it to THE Father to mediate.
HE set them a task on Excel that would take a lot of work and effort to complete.
The 'Dark one' went at the task like a feight train,Jesus just took his time and didn't rush.
Just as 'The Dark one ' was coming to the end of the task, there was a power cut (Outage).
When the power came back on all of 'The Dark one's work was gone, but Jesus just carried on from where HE had left off and finished first.
The 'Dark one' was furious and complained about what had happened and how unfair it was...
THE Father sighed and said: "It is quite Simple!
Jesus SAVES!"

No, I didn’t. I hadn’t saved since I started the translation, so I ended up with my English version and a blank page.

Little known factoid. He was first producer and advisor to the Finnish group "The Leningrad Cowboys".

I buy maybe two powerball tickets a year. On my birthday I always get a birthday scratch and play for a dollar, and always get two or three dollars back.

I see this as for pleasure. It’s cheap fun for me to get a ticket when it’s been weeks without a winner. I’ve seen people who really buy a lot of tickets week after week, especially since now one of the mega lottery powerball winning tickets was sold at my grocery store a year or so ago.

You are good at taking things off at a Tangent.
Just a Sine of the times, I suppose.

I bought one pack of cigarettes in my life.

Freshman year of college, during freshman orientation week.

All the cool girls were smoking and I wanted to fit in. I smoked a couple and disliked it.

Hey I was 17, and away from mom and dad for the first time.

I was petrified. Then classes started and my time there was the best time of my entire life.

Maybe the hypotenuse will be a puppy.

We’re going to a parade this morning. Sally is supposed to be in it, but she’s not up yet.

"All the cool girls were smoking and I wanted to fit in. I smoked a couple and disliked it."

I would wager that any of those "cool girls" who caught the habit would be deceased by now.

Heck, when I was in the Army, I was given cigarettes to smoke. I gave them away.

I absolutely LOVE the Leningrad Cowboys’ version of “Sweet Home Alabama!” Funky-looking, but great talent, even the dancers. And occasionally, they get the Soviet Army Chorus doing backup.

Good choice!

It may be a synonym for “my porch as soon as I light the grill,” but alas, I have no grill. It’s on my list of “Things I Want” but has not as yet been moved to the “I’m Getting This Now” list.

As for having someone make potato salad, I make the best you ever tasted, and I’m hypercritical of any other potato salad.

*sigh*
