A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

Tuxedo baby is adorable.

It’s a tiny tuxedo.

That’s going to be a BIG floofy when it’s full grown! Those whiskers tell it all! (If the whiskers fit the opening, the cat will. Kinda like electronic bumpers)

The night wasn’t too bad, but I was still up an hour sooner than I wanted to be.

At least my stomach is calm.

A cat only has, IIRC, nine hair follicles on each side of its upper lip, but obviously, multiple hairs can grow from each one.

(It might be seven follicles...it’s been a long time since I was in Vet Tech school)

My stomach is still complaining about beet salad.

I have a can of beets on the shelf that are just waiting for my attention. Hot, with butter and salt!

I don’t know what I will do today. I rummaged around and found some CDs that had genealogical labels on them, but whether they will transfer to Win10 or not is another story. If so, the only things I have to hunt for are the journals and histories.

It should keep me out of bars and off the streets for a while... ;o]

I need to go to Walmart, then to church at 10:00 to make more copies, then to the gym, maybe to the library. I have two reserve items in.

I’m thawing some leftover chili, so I don’t have to make a “fresh” meal.

I want to go to Walmart, but I don’t know what to get. Hahahahaha.

I’ve been shopping at Smith’s because I just wanted a change, but it’s down the road a piece. I will try to remember to get the number to the place I want to rent across the street from Smith’s and put in my application so when I leave here, I will have a place to move so I don’t have to move back in.

I also thought of moving to Mesquite, which is much smaller, and probably more amenable to me and what I need, since my BiL works at a casino there. And I can visit my niece and nephew in St. George, which is 30 miles away. We shall see what happens in the next few months.

This has been a bad week intellectually. I play Trivial Pursuit every morning to see where my brain is and every single day since Monday, I have missed at least one question out of 20, and some days, two. And they are questions I have answered correctly, before. *sigh*

I also do a crossword puzzle and a Mah Jhong game, but some days, my scores on the former are pretty pitiful, as I have to keep asking for hints so I can solve a word.

And other days, I sail through them all. :o]) At least I know it’s temporary!

I think it would be a relief if you could live near family, and a smaller town would mean less driving.

I wanted to get to Walmart early, but I have to get some pages ready to take to church. I have a letter done about the class I’ll be teaching, but now I have to write it in Spanish.

My daughter lives 13 miles from here, and her husband is a mechanic. Do you think they will help me? No, they don’t have time. He could diagnose the truck but he won’t. And he could order the part at his cost, even though he is out of the business. And he could install it. But he won’t.

The only thing about living in Mesquite is that I would have to learn where everything is and which areas are “undesirable.” And that means cultivating a new batch of “friends.”

But there is time, yet, so we will see what happens in the next six months or so.

But he won’t.

God has a plan for people who could and should help, but won't.

*face palm* Oh, Kathleen exacts revenge for potty training. E-vil Princess.

*groan*

Just boiled some eggs and filled the ice cube trays, and feel worn out, already. I may try to file some today, but since I moved the lamp, that may be more difficult that I expect.

I need a larger storage/file cabinet, period.

Tom sent them upstairs while he secured the Lego in the Secure Location unknown even to me.

I hear screaming up there: they’re probably jumping off the top bunks or something.

I am a firm believer in “you reap what you sow.” I’ve seen it from both ends, and I know that no decision goes without consequences, either good or bad. We can choose what to do but we can’t choose what the consequence will be.

It must be horrible to wake up one morning and realize your heart is as small, dark and unproductive as a rock. I prefer to give of my “increase,” whatever that may be.

Of course, these days, it mostly involves Mathoms and gifts of hot, homemade food to a neighbor or two, but still...I enjoy doing it.

77 degrees, SSW @ 7, gusting to 13 mph, and 49%. It’s cooler outside than it is in here, and my door faces the wrong way to catch the breeze.
