The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.
Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:
Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.
I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.
There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.
You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!
You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!
Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!
(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)
Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.
So, what can we do about it?
We can get drunk.
I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.
This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.
And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...
DRINK!
I will continue to pray for you both! <3
Happy Birthday to youse two!
Thank you, SJB.
Any day spent looking down at the ground instead of looking up at it is a good day.
I keep telling myself.
I tell myself much the same. LOL
I don’t have time for contemplation. Life is happening all around me!
Well, it’s time to turn that around!
Thanks. I’m honored to share it with my FReeper friend. :)
Enough kitties to make you a virtual crazy kitty lady without the downside.
Iknowhuh?
It will be another month before I can get the new laptop. *sigh*
But I will get the Asus. I feel I deserve a good one, this time! :o]
The “downside” would be the Smell-A-Rama feature that is all inclusive in cat houses... ;o]
Kitteh heaven.
party pooper
;>)
That would be meh.
LOL! Yes, it would ... like a roomful of young boys who don’t wash, but I repeat myself.
Oh, here’s Shannon to tell me her bowl is empty. Nyar.
See? I knew I would find “someone who knows!” LOL!
Is Shannon losing any weight? When does she see the vet?
Elen says she thinks Shannon is thinner. She doesn’t go to the vet until November.
Whoever carts Shannon around would notice the difference, for sure!
The barometer is down, and the wind is still blowing.
98, 18%, SSW @ 8-12 mph.
I feel that. Of course the “power surges” don’t help...whoever said “Women don’t sweat; they glow,” lied through their teeth: when a “power surge” hits, we SWEAT!
Elen and Bill are the most likely to pick her up. Maybe she’ll get thin enough to jump over the gate to the kitchen!
91, 43% humidity. It felt really hot today, after a couple of weeks of its being cooler.
The days are cooling off a little early this year, and I hate to see that. It will soon be sweater weather for me...and then jacket weather. And then I’ll be in thermal tops and fleece pants!
You’ll have to keep me informed on Shannon’s progress as to jumping over the gate! LOL!
Maybe she’ll be able to climb the ladder to a top bunk, too. Jake does!
