A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

The back of our sofa is okay, because it’s against the wall, but the sides and arms are a mess.

Here. If I can get my body to feel better in the next two hours, I will go wash clothes.

And if I can figure out how, I’m going to move the lamp that at my left to right behind the desk. It is too far away and therefore, too dim to be much good when transcribing papers.

Good morning. I need to box up Jake in a few minutes. He’s going to the vet for a rabies shot.

I hope I get over my ugly feelings, soon. They are beating me down.

This week, with any luck, I will get to work on the personal histories that are calling to me. There is no one else to do it, and I’m not going to live forever. So it has to be me.

What the heck...there are only three....

I hope you feel better, too!

The children are harassing poor Jake. We’ll head off to the vet as soon as I finish eating.

Time to head for the shower, I think. It will kill some time...or maybe I’ll wait another hour...or not.

Mood swings seem to be the order of the day here, for some reason. I don’t know what the deal is, but I’m not optimistic. And it doesn’t seem to be anything directly related to me. But I’ve had the feeling before and it isn’t good.

Jake had his vaccines and is otherwise fine, as expected.

But is he losing any weight??? LOL!

Do the catz still hate you for starving them? Bill gets off Scot-free, I bet. He doesn’t have to face the dreaded Wrath of Khats!

I wish it were tomorrow so I could go get some milk. It feel like a milky day...

I’ve had my shower and I’m getting ready to go wash the bedding, and then I will find some other mischief to get into.

My budget is all set for tomorrow (if the deposit is available) but with the new router, it’s going to be an ugly month. I SO want to get a different computer so I don’t have to pay Aaron’s any more!!

Thank you, dear friend.

I do agree that $600+ for a 2-1/2” tall stuffed “kitten” is
‘way out of line. The materials and skills with which she
was created probably cost less than $30.

Bryan and I are not poor, but even we would not cough
up that much moolah for such an object, regardless the
squeeeee.

Good morning. I have to replace my home laptop. The display suddenly went on the fritz last week. I could deal with really funky colors, but I’m trying to build a basic Web Site for someone and I need to make sure the colors aren’t my fault.

I’ve heard about those mood swings. Fortunately I don’t suffer them.

This morning I was going to reorganize the entire database, update all the documentation, and make sure all the bugs are fixed, but now I’m planning to see how many times I can switch views before the application collapses.

But that’s not a mood swing, right?

Mood swings, especially sudden ones, are not for the faint of heart. They are scary, depending on how quickly they change and manifest themselves.

I was never bothered with them before CFIDS, and had no clue what “mood swing” even meant. I know now!

Sorry to hear about your laptop. I hate when that happens. I always thought I wanted to build a website, but now, I wonder what I would have done with it...

Well, I got the sheets and towels washed and dried and now I have to put them away. After I take a pain pill.

The lamp also got moved this morning, before I took my shower, and now, I realize I need another lamp for the corner. *sigh* If it ain’t one darn thing...

I will drag out someone’s history today and begin to work on it. It will keep me busy for a few hours, anyway.

Two-tenths of a pound? Does Bill know that Jake is obviously cheating on his diet?

Has Jake recovered from the nasty shot?

Poor Jake. My kitties would hide under the bed after they got those shots.

It’s only been a couple of weeks. Also, we suspect that Jake has a second home in the neighborhood. He’s been spotted on doorsteps.
