The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.
Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:
Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.
I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.
There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.
You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!
You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!
Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!
(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)
Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.
So, what can we do about it?
We can get drunk.
I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.
This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.
And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...
DRINK!
I hope your day improves. There is much State of Collapse at my house this morning. We’re still waiting for Kathleen to go ...
Good morning, Undeaders.
It was a rough night. I had a very hard time falling asleep, and it was well into the wee hours before I did so.
This morning, I feel hung over because of it.
Most of the night was spent worrying about the truck and wondering how long it will take to get it fixed. I really need it, because I have several medical appointments coming up in the next few weeks.
I need to call the guy and find out if he is going to take it to really look at it, or if I have to find an overpaid mechanic. Either way, it has to be soon.
I have trouble even remembering all the things I’m too anxious about!
Suddenly the news is making me feel queasy. I’m going to find Pat and have him do math.
I’m heading off for work. Sorry about the language.
You’re excused.
LOL, that explains it.
I’m having a cup of coffee for the first time in almost a week.
The things I’m anxious about just keep coming, one by one, in a steady stream. The first of course, is the truck. I really need to get it fixed. It would be nice if it could be fixed just for the cost of parts, but I can’t wait too much longer for the guy to take it and check it out.
I was going to go to Walmart, but then I recalled that I have to go after 0900 for another prescription. *sigh* The truck runs worse in the heat.
The news has been making me queasy for a while, now. So I try not to read anything except the UT.
Thulsa Doom he is.
The Grenwich one is bronze.
Bronze just doesn't float very well.
That’s the International Date Line, right? Enquiring minds want to know.
That leads us to the intersect of the Greenwich Meridian and the Equator or point zero, 0° longitude 0° latitude.
The view from Point Zero.

It is indeed.
The source of all calendars.
It is kept here for safety.
It used to wonder around of its own free will, Philias Fog even took it on a road trip.
The world can sleep easy at night knowing the date line is in good hands.
:)
Wow, what a view!
(I can think of a candidate to become first _resident of Zero Land.)
Perfect site for Zero, dark clouds and stormy sea.
Note: I refrained from using, wine dark sea. That would be racist.
I still need to make the Grand Tour of the British Isles...for a couple of years. :o]
LoL.
Mustn’t hurt the delicate little petals’ feelings, now.
Concrete boots and All Hail Mr resident!
A proper Grand tour would take many years, even the crowned Queen hasn’t finished it yet.
I’ll warn Axminster: Get the red carpet on the loom!
Visit Loch Ness and see if the grand beasty makes an appearance in the lake...
...my luck it would know my name.
