The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.
Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:
Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.
I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.
There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.
You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!
You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!
Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!
(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)
Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.
So, what can we do about it?
We can get drunk.
I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.
This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.
And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...
DRINK!
The term “gird one’s loins” was used in the Roman Era meaning to pull up and tie the lower garments between the legs to increase mobility in battle. In the modern age, it has become an idiom meaning to prepare oneself for action.
That was how the ‘Devils in skirts’ stopped the forces of the Grand Karzie of Kalibar, during the battle in the Kyberpass.
It was done by numbers.....ahem :)
Aw, that’s cute!
So Beautiful! I would snuggle that kitteh so close and listen all day to the precious purring.
And then feed her!
I lost that album a long time ago, and it was one of my favorites. I’ve never had the money to replace it. *sigh*
Not if the designated selector selects the door with the lady behind it, assuming that being selected is the preferable outcome.
I'd say the tiger only wins approximately 0.50000000/1.0000000 of the time, and that's if said feline keeps reasonably quiet while ensconced behind the closed door (and the lady doesn't do a bang-up tiger impression) and the door has enough weather stripping to hold back the odor of tiger (which I found to be very distinctive and intense during my brief encounters with them).
Perhaps I'm picking a nit.
Awwww...thanks, Moosie! I never thought of going to YouTube for it! *HUG*
I’ve only got four minutes left to run.
It is in the original key, has been good. (((Hug)))
“A tiger, you say .”
((Meaning of life)(war))
I saved it and will listen to it just before I go to bed, so I can have a bit more relaxation. I need that, now.
I’ll have to put my headphones on... :o])
Hey Trussell! Hi!
Well, my 401(k), such as it is, is now down to about a 250(k).
Thanks, China.
Want me to send the GLK to pay you a visit? Or not...
Hi my friend!
Well, that’s one way of looking at it.
Nice boat.
Big picture. Are you familiar with the “width=” code? It goes after the “ that ends the picture property, but before the final >.
