A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

In “A Time to Kill” the main character’s daughter was horriffically sexually abused. Instead of waiting for the trial, the father killed them both. Of course, he should have given justice a chance. Of course, he shouldn’t have taken matters into his own hand.

As I read the steady drip-drip-drip of PP inhumanity I understand how that father felt.

No, I’m not going to be in the news any time soon for doing something at a PP clinic. Still, I understand.

I contacted my daughter (her hubby is a mechanic by trade) and she and he aren’t talking to each other, so he isn’t going to talk to me about checking out the truck.

I don’t have the phone numbers of anyone else who can help. I could take it to Boulder City, to the guy who broke my Toyota five + years ago, and the church would pay for it...but I can’t be without wheels for that long.

The only guy here who is a mechanic by trade won’t even check it for me. Says it’s “electrical, and I don’t do electrical.” This, without looking at it.

Depressed. Unhappy. Weepy. Wishing I were a mechanic...

It was a gripping book, but an excellent movie. Samuel L Jackson rocks!

It’s a good thing you posted that here on the UT, as most people on other threads would send some flak your way.

Yeah, when I want to talk or even discuss it’s here. Other threads are just for yanking peoples’ chains.

Pot of coffee. In my coffee pot.

I’ve never done the other stuff.

Morning, y’all.

Been to the gym. Been to the DMV to get a state ID card for Sally, who keeps having to take her passport places to prove she’s herself.

Next thing is the used book store. While I was at the gym, Elen went through a box of books Anoreth left in the garage. Some are being donated, but most have been found space on our shelves.

But first I need to have lunch. I’ve made an appointment for Kathleen to have her picture made with Tom, in her $178-value dress.

I stay mostly here because my mouth has a mind of its own.

I found someone to do my asking for me, but I don’t know how successful I’ll be. I asked my son last night, but he is used to working on older engines, before electronics. I texted my daughter and told her this was a desperate situation and asked if her hubby could please look. Both he and my son are mechanics. One would if he could and one may or may not. *sigh*

Daughter and SiL are taking his son to Reno to enroll in UNR for his freshman year, tomorrow. Nothing will be done until next weekend unless someone else contacts me.

I’m looking forward to seeing the pics of Kathleen. I’m sure she is going to be stuning in her sale dress.

I carried my passport with me for quite a while, until it expired. I also had an AZ DL that they let me keep when I moved here. Just punched a hole in it.

I’m hungry, but the larder is pretty bare, right now. I think I have a 5000 calorie burrito in the freezer! :o])

I save the yogurt for my evening “meal” as that’s when I take the most pills. The yogurt is a good cushion.

Yvonne Craig is dead?

Well, those teenage daydreams were too old anyway.

So, on some thread or another someone posted a meme about “gingers.”

I wonder if it would stir up enough trouble to be worthwhile if I insisted that in America they’re called “redheads” and remind everyone that immigration without assimilation is an invasion.

Or am I fooling myself that anyone would notice.

Ginger = redhead only on Gilligan’s Island. Sometimes I wonder what this country is coming to.

I’m thinking of a driving tour in the faroes as well. It’s inexpensive due to not being the kind of spot most people are interested in seeing.

True, but not good enough to keep the series alive.

Poor Adam West. Batman was just popular enough to ensure he could never play anyone else, and not popular enough to make sure he would be rich for the rest of his life.

He spent most of the rest of his “career” playing cameo roles for food money. And personal tours.

Still, it was a series my toddler son just loved!

I managed to get a lot of stuff filed today, but all I now have is a batch of the latest documents left to sort. Filing puts me in such an awkward position that I ended up taking two pain pills, and DANGIT! I just remembered I have a prescription for my neck pills to pick up and I don’t have enough money left for it after buying water yesterday. DANGdangdang.

Anyway, there are only a few little piles of things to get put away, and my living room will look like someone lives here, instead of just camping out. Ha-ha.

I was out sitting with the ol’ fogies in the Solve the World’s Problems group, and began having chest pain. Too much stress about the truck, I guess.

Tomorrow, I will try to get the last two loads of laundry done. Nothing for the dryer because I only have enough for two washer loads, and then that will be the end of the quarters AND the detergent. And I already have one and a half loads waiting... *sigh*

Sounds like an excellent idea. I think I suggested this years ago!

Can you even drive in the Faroes? From the travel programs, it looked like the don’t have enough land area for roads.
