A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

Katz on diet? Better hide these.

Don't let them get to the seed stock or no donuts next season.

They don’t eat those. The late Ash, best dog on earth, would clean up cereal when we first got her, but after a few years, she got pickier.

I gave up trying to count on the phone screen. The spots started giving me a headache.

So that’s how they make Krispy Kreme donuts.

I need 68 degrees. Winter I’m in a t shirt and jeans until I go outside. I don’t feel the cold.

I don’t do tropical. I’m seriously thinking when my parents are gone I’m moving somewhere cold. Very cold, Alaska? North Pole?

I’d love to be an elf for Santa if that was a real job.

When I was newly married in Omaha we had base housing with no A/C. The first holiday weekend my wife an I went to the O-Club pool and got sunburned, which meant we had to stay in the hot house for the rest of the holiday. We bought an AC and scheduled delivery/installation right away, but it couldn’t be installed until mid-week.

We took turns cooling off in the tub.

Got any 2s?

Welp, I’ve had my shower and now my back itches. I get a hugh hives-like rash periodically on it, and there is no one to scratch it. GAH!

Got a little nausea going, too, so I’m hoping the next hour calms that down. Going home, I’ll be facing the sun, and I’m not looking forward to that. At all.

I need a spritzer fan, if there is such a thing! LOL!

Back in the day I worked at an office 2 miles from a KK bakery.

They don’t grow them and they come HOT out of the glazer. People would stand in line to get a box of extremely fresh glazed donuts.

They were GREAT. And it could take hours to get all the sticky off your hands. Of course, it was quicker to wash the sticky off but licking it off was much more fun.

I’m getting a sugar rush just thinking about it.

*shiver*

I spent the first five years of my life in Alaska, and over my life, I’ve been in places that had some pretty nasty winters, but that’s why I’m where I am today... I need the heat. CFIDS and arthritis say so.

I don’t have a passport anymore. Mine expired and I never renewed it.

Renew it now. If (God forbid!) it comes time to leave you won't be able to get a new one.

Its very cheap insurance.

My passport expired, too, but I don’t have the money to get it renewed. The first one I got was $10, the second was $85 and renewals were $40. Last I checked, renewals were $120 and so were new ones. I have no clue what they are now.
