The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.
Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:
Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.
I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.
There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.
You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!
You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!
Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!
(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)
Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.
So, what can we do about it?
We can get drunk.
I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.
This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.
And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...
DRINK!
Oh my, a marmalade baby kitteh with mittens!!!!!!
Squee! squee!
That would be heaven to me. A bunch of babies
Head exploded from the squee.
TC,
I meant to tell you last night. Very good reply to the suicidal FReeper.
I was going to post the thread here in case anyone had wisdom for the lady.
Thanks! Plenty of others saying the same things. And of course, it’s not that she didn’t know all of it, but sometimes you just have to have someone - even a lot of people - tell you again.
I’ve been struggling with depression since adolescence. I’ve been where she is. It’s hard.
If you get through the night, the morning is always better. I’ve spent many a night on my knees praying the entire night just to get through.
Kittens help. When I’m blue I google kittens .,
Like one of the websites said, “Google ‘Tiny Kitten Picture’ and put down the gun.”
Oh that’s funny.
Here’s one for you. Just published . Baby names in the UK.

Orange squee to go with the coughie! YAY!
I’m not going to wash today. I just can’t get the gumption to do it. Wednesday...I’ll wash Wednesday.
I’m tired and achy and I need to go fix that coughie.
Someone, please hit me so I’ll have something else to think about beside me.
I’m here, but I forgot the keyboard for this tablet so I may not be all that talkative.
Middle child got off for a vacation in Germany yesterday. She’s the one who visits so it’s going to be a quiet two weeks.
To late. The gubmint already did.
Good luck with Middle Child’s visit! I loved Germany and would love to go back, but I can’t even afford the passport these days, so a trip is definitely out. Even to Mexico. As if I wanted to even go there.
I hope she takes lots of pics and brings back a stein for you!
I don’t have a passport anymore. Mine expired and I never renewed it.
I hope Middle Child has a great vacation.
Face, I wouldn’t hit you. I’d take you somewhere with air conditioning.
Thanks, Gefn. I have A/C. Germany doesn’t need it. Their climate is beautiful in the summer but brutal in the winter.
A/C doesn’t help the spinal arthritis, which is the thing the monsoons affect most. I have it everywhere in my body, but the lower spine in the worst. When the barometer drops that’s where I feel it, and for the months of July and August, the barometer is always dropping.
I appreciate your good wishes, though! *hug*
How are you feeling now with the surgery out of the way?
And did they ever!
MC is visiting friends she made in Colombia. I expect pictures, but no stein.
When we were there, I sent my brother a lead crystal stein. His youngest son took it to school for show and tell and dropped it on the sidewalk before he even got there.
I didn’t know this for years, but if he had told me when it happened, I could have sent him another.
My son still has his “cola stein,” which is a children’s version with a lid.
That was cute ... and what a relief that there were only four unfortunate babies named “Messi.” Hopefully they won’t grow up to kill their parents.
LOL!
I just ordered a new prescription for my neck meds. I guess I’ll be on them until well after my surgery. They will be ready tomorrow. Today, if I insisted and had the money.
At 0900 or thereabouts, I’m going to the thrift store and see if I can find a larger basket to put my daily meds in. I now have four that are left out of the pack...they are lonely. I will also see if I can find a picture frame and a couple of odd pillow cases.
My pillows are dead flat, but none of my pillowcases will hold two of them, as the cases are too small. I need new pillows, as my neck hurts really bad in the morning when I get up. And there is no relief for it.
I will check the prices at Walmart, next time I go.
You have my sympathy!
I’m trying to find at least one school subject for each child. There’s a chorus of, “I don’t have anything!!!” which is nonsense. They’re too lazy to look for it, and they don’t want to find it, anyway, because they hope I’ll get distracted and then they can lie around all day doing nothing.
