The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.
Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:
Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.
I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.
There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.
You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!
You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!
Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!
(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)
Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.
So, what can we do about it?
We can get drunk.
I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.
This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.
And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...
DRINK!
I’ve seen this before, and all I could think of was the absolute joy this elephant had with this simple toy!!
The weather is here, I wish you were beautiful ...
"Enjoying my time in Paris. Wish you were her."
"Have arrived in Venice. Streets full of water. Please advise."
LOL!
DP has taken some kids on a Scouting outing, and I’m cleaning. Bill is underfoot, but he moves when I approach with the vacuum.
I just got back from doing two loads of laundry, and have two more to go. I actually have three, but we are only “allowed” to use two machines at a time.
At least now I have clean sheets and tomorrow or Monday, I will have clean clothes.
I have come to the conclusion that I need a small fan in the kitchen. It is just too hot in there. Maybe I can get one on payday.
I DO need to get some diet soda and some pretzels...
I have soda left: HT had a “Buy 2 get 3 free” special. But we ate all the pretzels.
I probably should go to Walmart, but my back is killing me. I was going to change the sheets, now that I have clean ones, but I just hurt too much. I had to take another pain pill, and it’s only been four hours since the last one...ungh.
It was 79 degrees and 60% at 0615...It’s not much improved, and today is supposed to reach 110. Phoenix, however, has a whopping 117 at Sky Harbor airport!
How clever is THAT! LOL!
Bobbie came home from the hospital yesterday, and she seems much more comfortable. She has a weak heart, and
we’re waiting for the compounding pharmacy to get the drug ready for us to pick up on Monday. She has several
other drugs to take as well, but we have all of them because the hospital had them available on their premises.
She is ambulatory, eating, drinking water, and properly using the cat box, but she sleeps most of the time,
still tuckered out from the stress of being among strangers for several days.
I am sad that she is so easily distressed, but when we took her in, we soon realized that she had been ill
treated. It took us years to turn her from Miss Hissy Slashy to Miss Purry Petme, and there are still remnants
of her fears. We are most kind to her, and no matter what, she is treated gently and with calm voices.
Trips to the veterinarian’s are most troublesome, and I wish I could oversee her visits there in order to keep
her feeling comfortable and safe, but the doctors and assistants never allow that. And really, she probably
shouldn’t equate me with the fear and pain of the vet anyway.
Prayers
Thanks for the update, sweet Lady. It breaks my heart to know you are suffering along with Bobbie, but if I could, I would take the pain away from all of you.
*hugs*
I’m so happy she’s home with her humans.
I’ll continue to pray and send happy thoughts to all of you dear lady.
Thank you so much for your well wishes. My heart is lighter for your concerns about Bobbie.
The vet called before Bryan came home from Sam’s Club, and she said that she had a stop-gap drug
for Bobbie to take between now and when the compounding pharmacy makes her heart medication.
Fortunately, when I called Bryan’s cell, he was almost there anyway, so he was able to stop and pick it up.
She got her first dose before he even unloaded all the Sam’s Club purchases.
We lost our peachface lovebird on Wednesday.
Twenty one years old.
The cats are confused and looking for the feather monster with the beak who would chatter at them.
So glad that she’s doing better! Hang in there, Bobbie!
Ack!! So sorry for the loss of your elderly Peachface Lovebird, Darks.
Twenty-one years is a long time to have a bird friend. After having it
around for so long, it is easy to understand why cats are missing it too.
My father always had a blue parakeet named Wino. My sister hated
that bird with a purple passion, and they used to disappear quite
regularly, but my father would always replace them with an identical
one. Once she opened up the back door and threw his cage down
the stairs. The door popped open, and that one was gone forever.
Glad to hear your kitteh is at home now!
Tom the Son is home.
OH, too bad, Darks.
