From the whiz-bang and cheesy to the far-out and prematurely cancelled, sci-fi and TV have had a nice run. We locked ourselves in the basement with several milk crates of VHS tapes, laser discs, and back issues of Starlog to come up with the top 50 science-fiction television shows.

Oh nothing touches GITS. It isn’t possible.
The trick to Eva is multiple watchings. It’s something that unveils itself over time/viewings. What looks on the surface like a generic anime kids show is a massively complex morality play.
Some people hate it and thats fine. It’s not for everyone. But IF it hooks you, you can watch the whole thing 100 times and still find new things in it.
Where’s “An Inconvenient Truth”? Now THAT’S a work of Science Fiction if there ever was one.
I’ll thank you all for the correction when the thread winds down.
OK, that was the cast but what they did with it is a LOT BETTER than many of the other TV Shows here. The Ferengi were fun but when they got to the Borg, that was great! However my fave for that series was "The Inner Light" S5_N25 where Picard is mentally hijacked to be the link to a doomed people and planet. It won the 1993 Hugo Award for Dramatic Presentation.
#1. The Walking Dead
No biggie. One of my Favorites along with Forbidden Planet and 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.
Those Movies were made around the time of my Birth over 60 Years ago and the Special Effects for that time were Fantastic. The Flying Saucer in TDTESS is still my Favorite.
Gort and Robby were the Best Robots. The guy who designeed the Gort Costume was asked how the Actor could get in and out of the suit since there were no visible seams.
Simple he replied, there were Two Suits, one with a Zipper on the Front and one with a Zipper on the back. LOL
Get In The Damn Robot Shinji!!!!
Here is the American Version of N.G.E. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6pv6luFwGU
Torchwood?
Really?
Torchwood?
Maybe at #69....
They weren't trying to be Brilliant. They had a really low budget when they did the pilot episode and they didn't have money to make anything that looked like a normal sized time machine. They had that box, and so they built the story around it.
I guess you could say it was "brilliant" to take lemons and make lemonade out of it, but if they had had the money, they would have had something fancier.
Glad it worked out the way it did. Using the box has been a continuous "Time Lord" joke since the 1960s.
Lost at no. 12? Does science fiction include sloppy fiction? The show plots reminded me of a campfire tradition of one person starting a story, then the narrative/plot gets passed to the next and so on. It may be fun for the narrators but the product is often boring and ridiculous.
I guess it’s better to tell him to get in the damn Robot than tell him the truth of what he’s actually getting into. Because that would be...er...Alabaman...
I thought the Move was titled “IT Came from Outer Space”
As I recall a Martian got inside the Rocket Ship as a stowaway on the way back to Earth.
The term ‘sci fi’ no longer has any real meaning. Most of what’s called sci fi is really in the fantasy genre.
Where’s Science Fiction Theater?
They ignored that classic, and included Land of the Lost?
/facepalm
An utter farce. Space 1999 belongs at the very top of the list. (if you overlook the horrible science in the show.)
They were Liberal Writers characterization of Capitalists. Every Ferengi was intended to represent us Profit Driven Conservative Republicans who wanted to keep their women naked.
Seriously, think about it. They projected onto the Ferengi everything they thought disgusting about us.
Oh, and Modern PC coupled with "Google" are the "Borg." That's not what the writers meant to say, but I'm saying it now. Google and the Tech Industry coupled with Politically Correct, have become the "Borg."
Resistance is Futile. You will be Assimilated. (or destroyed.)
The Jetsons.
Yup.
I actually blame video games. Final Fantasy went a long way to blending genres in peoples minds with FF7 and those millions and millions of players are the adults of today making the movies/shows.
