Fossil-Fuel Emissions Causing Huge Impact on Radiocarbon Dating

Radiocarbon dating which is used to estimate the age of every particular thing on earth is facing big threat from the fossil fuel and carbon in the atmosphere. Researchers said excess of carbon in atmosphere due to burning of fossil fuel could reduce the accuracy of Radiocarbon dating.

Heather Graven, a climate-physics researcher at Imperial College London, after an analysis has found that emissions from fossil fuels are artificially raising the carbon age of the atmosphere.

...

"Combustion of fossil fuels is diluting the fraction of atmospheric carbon dioxide containing radiocarbon. This is making the atmosphere appear as though it has aged or lost radiocarbon by radioactive decay occurring over time."

I believe the average FReeper gets what is and what isn’t sarcasm. I don’t write for the below average FReepers. ;-]

Radiocarbon dating is based on the ratio between C12-C14
C14 is created by Cosmic Rays hitting C12 atoms.
Thus if the number of C12 atoms increases, so does the number of C14 atoms created.

In reality its really all Bush’s Fault.

Guess they don’t like dissent; must be Libs, but we knew that.

I questioned the harm any carbon in the air right now would do to fossilized (shells, vegetation, bones, etc) items with carbon in them, as well as preserved artifacts such as the Shroud of Turin, something inside a pyramid or buried deep in the group.

In fact, we shouldn’t be seeing any real C14 changes in dead objects for hundreds of year if C14 detection still begins at the hundred to 300 year mark for accuracy.

Lots of maybe’s, could be’s, possibly, etc. to climate change research.

If they come back in a couple hundred years, they might have a large enough database to come to some firm conclusions.

As I like to point out, “global warming science” has more “may”s than a truckload of calendars.

“C14 is created by Cosmic Rays hitting C12 atoms.”

Not.
