The One Way To Invite An Independent Trump Candidacy Mark Davis | Jul 24, 2015
While it is a worthy pursuit to examine and anticipate each passing twist and turn of the Trump campaign, there is one goal that should be at the top of every conservative list: avoid luring him into an independent run.
Anything that makes Trump wistfully consider a third-party run is bad. Anything that makes him dismiss it is good. My opinion of his campaign has no effect on this conclusion. For the record, I have enjoyed his directness and fierce autonomy from the donors and consultants that usually water down GOP candidates and eventual nominees. I have also winced at his wheels-off moments of juvenile barbs and cell-number disclosures. All the while, his presence has taught us lessons about the voters and the GOP field that we would not have otherwise learned.
But make no mistake. Once the Republican Trump flirtation ends, and that will be later rather than sooner, if he mounts an independent candidacy, Barack Obama gets a Democrat successor.
Bottom line, Mr. Davis thinks that a Jeb Bush candidacy assures a Third Party run for Trump.
Bush will lose regardless of what Trump does.
Seven months to go until the first caucusses and primaries, 8-10 months until we’re in the thick of things.
Trump’s candidacy will mostly likely burn out before then due to overexposure. The GOPe is nuts to try to play games to trip him up, especially now.
Best thing any GOP candidate and the Party itself can do is soft peddle criticism of him, keeping it focused on “honest differences” and try to piggyback onto his media exposure by pointing out areas of policy (but not tonal” differences.
Which seems to be exactly what Cruz is doing.
Yes, Bush will lose , but he would also mean a Third Party run by Trump.. Better to nominate someone else to begin with.
This race has really become fascinating. I can’t remember another remotely like it.
I just hope Cruz is on the ticket. It would be a shame to squander that opportunity.
That's fine, as long as that other person is Cruz or Walker. Anyone else? Same result as with Bush.
...and a win for the dems
Maybe Kasich?
Trump is the second coming of Ross Perot.
A Jeb Bush nomination assures a Democrat successor to the Current Occupant now squatting in the White, er, “Rainbow” Hut, whether The Donald mounts an “independent” third party run for the office or not. Jeb is not really interested in being President if he has to FIGHT Herself, Madame Benghazi, the Cold & Joyless, for the job. That would be “ungentlemanly” and “not compassionate”.
A plurality is as good as an outright majority, and some would say it is more “representative” and “fair”, as a minority gets to rule over a majority.
How a minority, reaching majority, seizing authority, hates the minority.
.and the Third Coming of Clinton.
Though Trump would have to commit fairly early, the deadline for putting a party on the ballot in some states is very early, like November.
If the GOPe blackballs Ted Cruz out of the nomination, then let’s bring on Donwld Trump to run third party.
He would smash the corrupt, dishonest, rotten-to-the-core GOPe for once and for all.
Really? On top of my list as a conservative are two simple things - first I want my voice heard (not $$$$$ donation), and second retake my party back. So far it is RNC, long time high paying strategists, and most other candidates themselves who don't want me.
The author didn't explain why another ‘more acceptable’ GOP establishment and top donors selected candidate (so-called moderate republicans, we have had past examples of them) can beat Hillary and avoid an Obama third term.
Only if he does something totally stupid like Perot did, like dropping out of the race and then getting back in.
At one point, Perot had a significant lead over both Bush and Clinton in the polling (39%, 31%, 25%), but then he went off the tracks.
Is H*****y the politician that Slick Willy is? Not even close. Slick was a natural at the game. Other than having a vagina, she has no appeal.
Barring anything really idiotic on Trump's part, or a major scandal, there's a chance that he could win as a third party candidate.
Perot would have gotten nothing if the GOP hadn’t nominated an anti American NWO piece of trash. If they do so again, I will gladly support another Perot. If we don’t get a President who supports America this time it doesn’t matter who wins.
News Flash: The GOP can’t beat Hillary without Trump.
Trump doesn’t need the GOP, — They need Him.
Better for Trump to run as Independent, than to carry the water for the GOP.
Like it or not..........Trump knows this.
You can take it to the Bank. Period.
That is perhaps a long-winded way of agreeing with your statement. Just as Teddy Roosevelt outpolled my fellow Ohioan in 1912, where Taft was the Republican nominee and Teddy ran on his own ticket; a Trump Third Party would out-poll a Republican Jeb Bush ticket. We have had a preview of that fact over the past week.
That said, I hope the analytically challenged "pundits" in the Republican establishment in Washington, will not continue to play stupid, and drive this potential very, very serious asset, away.
I’ve read Trump’s books. You are 100% correct.
