Alex Rocco, the veteran tough-guy character actor with the gravelly voice best known for playing mobster and Las Vegas casino owner Moe Greene in The Godfather, has died. He was 79. Rocco died Saturday, his daughter, Jennifer, announced on Facebook. No other details of his death were immediately available.
Rocco, who studied acting with the late Leonard Nimoy, a fellow Boston-area transplant, also was the voice of Roger Meyers Jr., the cigar-smoking chairman of the studio behind "Itchy and Scratchy" on The Simpsons, and he played Arthur Evans, the father of Jeffrey Dean Morgan's character, on the stylish Starz series Magic City.

“There was this kid I grew up with; he was younger than me. Sorta looked up to me, you know. We did our first work together, worked our way out of the street. Things were good, we made the most of it. During Prohibition, we ran molasses into Canada...made a fortune”

I had no idea. No wonder this guy was a “natural.” What a great story.
Boston mob stories are better than NY mob stories. Because they are all such idiots who would shoot you over nothing.
Are you kidding?
Geez! What a bunch of lunatics! OK, some dude grab’s your lady’s butt ... Bust him in the chops, walk away and let it go. This was pure insanity.
Better, meaning funnier...shaking your head and saying WTF.
I love NYC. I just hate the Yankees.
There was this kid I grew up with; he was younger than me. Sorta looked up to me, you know. We did our first work together, worked our way out of the street. Things were good, we made the most of it. During Prohibition, we ran molasses into Canada... made a fortune, your father, too. As much as anyone, I loved him and trusted him. Later on he had an idea to build a city out of a desert stop-over for GI's on the way to the West Coast. That kid's name was Moe Greene, and the city he invented was Las Vegas. This was a great man, a man of vision and guts. And there isn't even a plaque, or a signpost or a statue of him in that town! Someone put a bullet through his eye. No one knows who gave the order. When I heard it, I wasn't angry; I knew Moe, I knew he was head-strong, talking loud, saying stupid things. So when he turned up dead, I let it go. And I said to myself, this is the business we've chosen; I didn't ask who gave the order, because it had nothing to do with business!
Rest in peace to Alex Rocco.
Alex did well to get out of Boston. Bunch of lunatics there.
"Funnier how? I mean funnier, like Im a clown? I amuse you? I make you laugh? Im here to F-n amuse you? Whattya you mean funnier? Funnier how? How am I funnier? What the F is so funny about me!"

Hyman Roth, as you may know, was based on the real Jewish mobster Meyer Lansky.
Hyman Roth (born Hyman Suchowsky; 1891 1960) is a fictional character and the main antagonist in The Godfather Part II and a minor character in the novel The Godfather Returns. He is a Jewish investor and a business partner of Vito Corleone, and later his son Michael Corleone. He is based on Florida-based mobster Meyer Lansky and was played by Lee Strasberg in the movie
Hyman Roth was one of the better characters.
I once knew a guy from Tampa who reminded me a whole lot of Hyman.
