Throngs of impassioned fans of the US women's soccer team turned out early for a parade through New York City's Canyon of Heroes to celebrate the squad's victory at the Women's World Cup.
The parade-goers started gathering at 3,30am on Friday along the Canyon - a stretch of Broadway where the nation's largest city has honored its legends - in anticipation of the event's 11 am start.
Friday's celebration marked the first time New York City held a parade honoring a women's sports team.

When will they start bragging that most of team is Lesbian ?
An affirmative action parade.
A few weeks ago, most of America didn’t even know that we had such a women’s team, and most of us still have no idea what this is about.
What is the World Cup? Is it a ping pong tournament or something?
It is about American women being world class champions and representing our country in a very positive light. I am surprised you have no idea what it is about.
No it is a world stage of soccer which American Women just showed they are the best, proving the greatness Americans once again has produced.
What is the “America” they speak of?
How is this an affirmative action parade? The American team beat the best the world has to offer in a fair and square competition. You would have preferred that they lose? Why do you hate an American team?

Maybe “most of us” on this site don’t know it, but soccer is quite a popular sport worldwide so I hear.
It is in the category like Cycling, and Formula 1 racing; big outside the US but not as big in the US.
Yawn, but snuggling up to De Blasio and Cuomo and kissing their girlfriend on live TV? I would say they represent Las Nueva Estadas Unidas quite will.
America will see a lot more soccer in the coming decades.
Islam, Hindu, and Buddhism are also pretty big outside the US I hear.
Then probably you would not do the same if you were in a ticker tape parade in New York City honoring you and your teammates great achievement.
No, I probably would not.
I mean, would you be in a paraded with Fidel Castro?
This is female soccer, most of us didn’t even know that this girl thing existed, and still don’t know what the event is.
Yet here they are, getting a ticker tape parade.
I don’t think this is accurate . . . I think Gertrude Ederle also received a ticker tape parade after swimming the English Channel.
