Though it might seem like no smoking signs on airplanes arent even needed anymore who could possibly think lighting up a cigarette in an enclosed cabin filled with other people is okay? there are apparently those out there who still need reminding that smoking isnt allowed. To wit: a United Airlines flight headed to Boston from Denver was forced to turn around after a passenger reportedly lit up and refused to stop smoking.
Officials said the flight returned to Denver International Airport around midnight on Friday due to a disturbance on board, an airport spokesperson told Channel 2 News in Colorado.
A male passenger was smoking in the bathroom, a United representative said, which goes against federal regulations.

Sometimes when I use the bathroom cigarette smoke would be a welcome diversion. I can’t believe they recirculate the air throughout the cabin.
I loved getting drunk on transat flights, downing little bitty cognacs, flirting with grandmothers and yakking with people from all over, smoking away with a condom (if only!) and a Swiss Army Knife in my pocket... Honestly with all these rules, is life so much better now?
Uh.... everybody prior to 1988.
Which is why, pretending to be asleep under my blanket, I vape. Lol.
“Typical attitude of a smoker.”
And thank heaven you don’t have the “typical attitude” of a non-smoker. Most are not so judgemental.
.
This was a power struggle the flight crew were determined not to lose. Was there no available flight attendant who could be given the job of babysitting this numbskull?
Many flight attendants will throw a person off just for a smart aleck attitude.
Good flick. Ben Kingsley as a thug.
Absolutely not true. The cigarette was dropped in a lavatory trash can and fell between the can and the wall.
And for God’s sake. I flew on flights where smoking was permitted in the mid 1980s. I reeked of cigarette smoke, had holes in my skirt from lit cigarettes and had horrible chest pains from filtering the cigarette smoke through my lungs.
I’ve been a smoker for most of my life.
Flew to an insurance conference in Dallas in 1988. The return flights to Charlotte were 4/23/88 the day the partial ban on smoking went into effect, also my birthday. The new rule said we couldn’t smoke on flights less than 2 hours. The flight to Atlanta was listed at 1 hour, 59 minutes.
We boarded and sat on the runway for over 6 hours, so we kept asking, and getting told no we couldn’t smoke. Guy I was with sneaked one in the head, so I decided I’d try.
Thought I got away with it. 5 min after I came back, flight attendant came to my seat, and said “Do that again, and it’s a $10,000 fine and the police will take you off the plane. You’ll be charged with a federal crime.
I responded with something smartass about it getting me back to the terminal to get a beer and hotdog, but I never did try it again.
"Smoking."
Perhaps you need to give the information you have to the NTSB so they can revise their report.
