An Army officer who was accused of tracking down and killing an unarmed bomb-making suspect in Afghanistan is being recommended for an honorable discharge even though a military panel that looked into the case determined his conduct was unbecoming an officer.
The military panel at Fort Bragg reached the finding late Sunday concerning Maj. Mathew Golsteyn. Army Special Forces Command spokeswoman Maj. Allison Aguilar said Monday that if the decision is upheld by a review board Golsteyn would be discharged under honorable conditions allowing him to keep nearly all veteran's benefits.

No kidding.
Anyone but me think this is a stupid statement!
Of course, if there was a bomb or a trigger mechanism anywhere in reach, including in a pocket, he wouldn’t have been unarmed, would he.
His action saved lives.
This whole thing is a joke.
Yagottabe kidding me, right??
RIGHT?????????
God bless Major Goldsteyn and Rep. Duncan Hunter, he deserves the DSC.
He apparently exhibited great skill in tracking and finding those who wished to hide. Here’s hoping he can use that skill on the military “leaders” who betrayed him for doing his job.
Meanwhile the Kenyan Fraud can send drones anywhere in the world to take out whoever he likes, no questions asked????
Why anyone volunteers for the PC military is beyond me.
An Army officer who was accused of tracking down and killing an unarmed bomb-making suspect in Afghanistan...There's no such thing as an unarmed bomb-maker. Thanks Kartographer.
I’ve been following this for awhile on various milblogs.
I think, but aint full sure, that the real reason for the punishment is because of failure to follow orders that led to the event, and then false testimony after.
Of course, if he didn’t break orders, the bomb maker would have been able to kill more of our own and if he didn’t give false testimony after, he’d be in prison now, most likely.
Imo, anyone who has a problem with the killing of a jihadiscum bomb maker by any means what-so-ever would benefit from an arrest, trial and execution for treason. But, I’m often told I’m rather unreasonable about such things.
Sadly, the casual use of the F-bomb proves the decline of FR.
I fear lower stands are soon to become no standards. . .much like DU.
IMHO.
Active Duty ping.
An observation, not an attack: there was a time on FR where profanity was rare because we self-censored, used our intellect and superior vocabulary to avoid profanity. Moreover, profanity was not casually used.

Thank you, Hulka. I think most freepers agree. Profanity adds nothing to the conversation and still offends a lot of people.
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list

You are not the only one. It sounds like a PC statement.
Normally I don’t use a lot of cuss words because in writing about the American Left, esp. in DC, that is all you could write about them.
However, the Secy of the Army and Navy, with Secy of Air Force close behind and the Marines getting more PC all the time, cussing is the only legal release left for those of us who have seen and fought this crap for over 45 years.
I see it every day in DC and it is just going to get worse, and our emasculated military leaders will get more of our sons and friends killed through their PCness, stupidity and cowardice.
I would never tell me son to join the military today because he would not be allowed to fight to win, as he was allowed to do in Iraq, and did.
My father-in-law died in October, one of the few Army Signal Corps soldiers to participate in the landing assaults. His commanders never were PC, never caved in to a fool as a commander, never punished men for their bravery.
They fought, they died, but they fought to win, and did.
Today, our military would rather have tea with the Taliban and ISIS than tell the president to resign because of his cowardice.
We lost too many good people in Iraq and Afghanistan due to stupid Rules of Engagement, and those rules are still in effect in Iraq today. Otherwise, ISIS would have been Desert Sushi in a short time and thousands of innocent people and Iraq soldiers would still be alive instead of drowned, burned alive, beheaded, machine-gunned in their own grave, hung, or thrown off buildings.
You bet I’m mad and I will let some words slip out because I’m tired of the cowardice and treason that rules us, and of the American public who have surrendered their rights to the Commie in Chief and his morally, ethically and politically corrupt minions.
If I don’t tell it like it is, who will? WHo has the guts to call a spade a spade?
The time for niceness has long passed us by. We can be nice here at FR, but you don’t get the enemy’s attention by calling them “gentlemen”.
