I've Been A Bit Quiet Lately
Free Republic ^ | 28 June 2015 | Windy

Posted on 06/28/2015 12:16:00 AM PDT by Windflier

I haven't been commenting much lately because my mind is simply on overload right now. I'll bet yours is, too.

About all I can say is that, now isn’t the time for me to ramble, but to digest, contemplate, plan, and prepare.

I’ve spent years at this forum spilling my guts and taxing my synapses. The exchange of viewpoints with others, and even the verbal fisticuffs, has been rewarding in many ways for me.

But recently something’s taken hold of me that’s hard to explain. I guess I’ve quieted down due to the storm clouds I see gathering on the horizon. The low rumble of thunder is just barely heard, but I feel it in my bones. I’ve stepped back from the roundtable, and am now intently gazing at what approaches from the far distance. I can’t take my eyes off it. It’s distracted me from the hearty and boisterous conversation around me.

I’m obviously not the only one who notices, but unlike most, I’m having a hard time talking about it. My survival instincts are kicking in, and all I can seem to think about is doing what I must, to protect my family and myself.

Well, enough with the poetry. I know you get my drift.

I still harbor a great deal of hope that we can propel a conservative champion into the White House in 2016, and help to end our collective nightmare. I've become convinced that Ted Cruz is the one person who has the capacity to unite the good and decent people of this country, and that he's a man who has the requisite courage and backbone to do what must be done to rein in our tyrannical government. I am backing him 100%, and will do everything in my humble ability to see that he becomes our nominee.

For one, Ted is the very first candidate I’ve ever sent money to. Considering the fact that I’ve been voting since 1972, that’s saying something. The way I see it, this is our very last chance to steer the ship of state away from the rocks before she finally crashes, and I have got to do what I can, to avoid what will surely follow, should we fail. I do not want to look my teenaged children in the eyes in a few short years, and say, “I’m sorry kids. You shouldn’t have to risk your lives to save your country, but my generation was just too weak to keep things from coming to this.”

Although it’s incumbent upon me to stay up to date on the tragic unraveling of America, I’m doing my best to not become completely overwhelmed by the course of events. I’ve got a business to run and a family to provide for. That comes first, above all else. That, I will do, but more and more, I look to the Founders for guidance in these bleak and horrible times. Their personal stories, and the examples of heroism they provided, give me hope and strength to carry on in the face of a tyranny they would recognize at once.

In the past, I’ve prayed that our generation would not be called upon to earn our freedom as our forefathers of the 18th century did, but more and more, it appears that that hope is vain. Every day, a new page of history is printed, which in retrospect, will prove that our darkest fears were right on the mark, and that we were right to posit that this generation would either fail, or would pass the greatest test a people can face. I think we can agree that such thoughts are becoming more crystal clear by the day.

I was just telling my wife today, that I wish we could just pick up and move to our rural dream home. Right now.

If only it were possible. I need that solitude and sense of safety. Alas, it’s not to be — at least not for several more years — that is, if things in this country can even hold together.

One saving grace is that I’m in the great state of Texas. As I’ve often told my wife, if things in America go completely sideways, we’ll be safe here, because if (God forbid) the S does HTF, things will straighten up in Texas overnight, as the good men of this state WILL stand tall, and they WILL do their ancestors proud. My certainty about that outcome is just as strong as my gut certainty about the horrific trajectory of current events in this country.

I think every thinking patriot on FR is on the same page with this. It would be a wonderful thing if the ‘other side’ would simply let us be, but they won’t. They’re going to continue pushing until something breaks. It’s just how they roll.

In my heart, I honestly feel pity for them, because when they finally light the match on that prairie fire, no power on God’s green earth will be able to put it out.

Well said. I’m in Arizona now, a year from being eligible to retire. I spent some time in Texas as a young airman. I may end up joining you there.

You'll be welcome. We can always use more patriots here.

Excellent Post my FRiend.

President Reagan famously said that we were merely a Generation away from losing our Freedoms. A Wiser Man I will never meet.

Can’t say I disagree with anything you wrote.

I am nearly 62 Years old and I thought the Carter Days were dragging this Country into the Abyss. Little did I know.

Sadly, those days seem like a trip to Disneyland.

Take care of your Family, appreciate who your true Friends are and Pray that your fellow Citizens will wake from their Obama inspired Socialist Stupor.

Good point, in chaos and disorder, Texans will be inclined to be pioneer like and set about restoring order, making things work, cooperating with fellow Texans, and not tolerating the rise of dangerous predators.

When things go wrong, a strong people, feeling strong tribal identity can make things work, and Texans are so very Texan.

Prayers going up for all...for the USA. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns.... We are all just about right where you are...I have been praying for those Guardian Angels to come on down and fight the evil that is enveloping all that we hold dear.... I have faith enduring faith in my Lord God. I am quite sure He had a good belly laugh when he heard Obama sing Amazing Grace. 😂

Silently clapping. I think we are all hurting like you. You always say it so well. It is a brief time to watch and wait, but we do need to right this course very soon. Liberty will out, but what will we have to go through to get there? Please Gd have mercy on us all.

Two paths at the same time:

1. Support Ted Cruz with my money, my time, and my prayers.

2. Shopping list: gold, silver, lead, brass, food, medicine, soap, . . .

The current path is unacceptable and unsustainable.

I am almost 60 and will never live long enough to to see a return of the US.

For me the fight’s over and I am working on leaving the country.

This is not the country my parents fled the Iron Curtain to reside in.

Obama was that point of no return.

Yeah, I hear ya. I admit I'm more into the libertarian wing (I'm a Barry Goldwater type although I am pro-life), I mean, I don't care who marries who as long as both or all parties are at or above the age of consent. They can just make a contract in a civil case and find some church or whatever to marry them. I find the Obamacare ruling a little more troubling although the same sex marriage ruling I also see as bad law too. I did watch a good episode of "Welcome Back Kotter" Thursday night and the old, crotchy vice Principal Woodman commented on the SCOTUS porn decision at the time (this was 1977) when Epstein mentioned about community standards and Woodman countered, "what do 9 old men know about porn anyway?" The Sweathogs seem to agree. Not take porn and replace it with a lot of stuff and I say the same thing. I just find it ironic at the timing of the episode. I often ask myself, "What do these 9 old people know anyway?" Myself, if I had to make a ruling, I would say, "it is a State issue and/or let the people themselves decide."

I have gay friends, I have no problem if they marry. Hey go for it, knock yourselves out, you even have my blessing, I'm sure for many years this has gone on law or no law. What scares me is the SCOTUS decision is bad law where it could be used to force bakers to bake a cake even if it is against their religion or conscience to do it. People should not be forced to do anything against their beliefs, even if we disagree with it. What's next, forcing Quakers or Amish to serve in the infantry? America is, or was, a place where everyone has diverse opinions and practices where as long as we do not infringe on another or on society, we are free to do what we like and believe what we like. We are losing that. I have had trouble sleeping myself, even my left eye twitches, I'm up now.

I think the seeds have been planted long ago, some say as far back as Lincoln. Well, I think really, the big push in what we have now is in another bad law. The Civil Rights Acts, especially 1964. Yeap, I think they should have never been voted in. Same thing with the 14th, 15th, 16 and 17th Amendments, I digress and getting back to the point, because of the Civil Rights laws, it has given a license to everyone with a grievance real or perceived a way to get what they want if they cry like a baby and whine like a bad alternator bearing, They would cry, "you're violating my civil rights." Once that is said, then society and us must give in. It is the tool of bullies. No one should be bullied, be they Christian, Jew, gay, anything. I was bullied as a kid, being a typical space/ham radio geek with Asperger's. It isn't pleasant.

Ironically, I think voting in the Civil Rights Acts started this nation down the road where we will tear apart. Many times, I often said, it is like a Zen Buddhist thing where if you push for one thing hard all you do is achieve the opposite in spades. We are and will suffer for this, we seem to be in 1859 America in a 1938 world. We have the likes of Iran, the North Koreans, ISIS/ISIL (or whatever they call themselves this month) and so forth.

If I could go back in time, I'd do two things I know of, one stop the development of The Pill and two, somehow stop the Civil Rights Acts.

If I win the powerball for a huge amount of money, I'd find a ghost town somewhere and look for libertarians and conservatives who are sick of all of this to come and live there. We'd have out own radio station, TV station, shortwave station, police and even militia. We could set up our own shops, business and industry. We have our own schools and so forth. I remember seeing an old movie on ABC where Brian Keith played a multi-millionaire who founded his own town to give people a second chance who need it, I think we all need a place like this now.

I feel like I live in an alien land.

Sorry to see you give up and run, friend. Every patriot is needed in this hour of need. We must all stand together, or we'll surely all hang separately.

For myself, this is the only home I've ever known, and the blood of my ancestors stains this ground. There's no running for me.

Yes Windflier, and many here can relate no doubt. Your righting was very moving and hit home with me. Thank you for sharing as it’s comforting to me reading your words for in them there is still hope...no matter how dim that light is burning now.

I agree Ted Cruz may be the last hope we can change this tide that’s sweeping our nation...but moreso has taken over our governance in full....when I saw the White House lit in gay colors so many emotions swept over me, from shock to fear, anger and great sadness...and it hung on as that for a couple days....until....I was lead to this opinion piece is by Russell Moore, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. It reminded my that we are now where we were as Christians in the beginning...and should have been all along.

I will trust the Lord to give you a few moments to read this worthy piece as you prepare.

Where is there to go? Europe is falling into itself now and will eventually usher in even more chaos over there.... Staying on this side of the ocean is far less of a risk even with the state of affairs as they are and leading.
