Whoever wrote that needs to put chlorine in their eyes and see if they turn red, it is science after all

It’s the ph level. Its not chlorine. The chlorine raises the ph so you add some.acid to compensate. This is all.a bull$hit scam like all the others.

...creates a chemical similar to ammonia. It's not "similar" to ammonia - it IS ammonia.

The title reminds me of today’s Supreme Court decision - urine in the pool.

It's not "similar" to ammonia - it IS ammonia. Actually, the ammonia binds with the inadequate level of chlorine and creates chloramines. This is one common cause of eye irritation. The solution to a buildup of chloramines is breakpoint chlorination, AKA "shocking" the pool with a high concentration of chlorine.

I have always hated swimming! I can’t open my eyes in the water, as they turn red, burn, and get puffy. Besides, you can’t breathe water!

Its the ph level. Its not chlorine. The chlorine raises the ph so you add some.acid to compensate. You are half right. Improper pH level — either high or low — is another couse of eye irritation.
Liquid chlorine raises the pH, but Trichlor, the tablets used more often than liquid chlorine, lower it, as does Dichlor (pool shock).
A strategy I used when I had a pool was to use Trichlor as my everyday sanitizer, and shock the pool once a week with liquid chlorine. I never had to add muriatic acid.

According to the CDC, urine and other bodily germs including feces, sweat, and dirt mix with pool chemicals, like Chlorine and bromine, and it creates a chemical similar to ammonia. It makes one wonder as to why anyone would voluntarily subject themselves and their children to splashing around in an unflushed public toilet bowl.............

A totally clean pool with chlorine will still make the eyes red.Not if the water chemistry is balanced, the chloramine level is low, and chlorine level is no higher than necessary. There is more to the equation than chlorine.
Properly balanced pool water, especially with slight salinity such as can be found in pools utilizing electrolysis of salt for chlorine production, is very easy on the eyes.
