Word For The Day, Monday, 6/22/15
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
surplusage; noun
1. (law) (in pleading, etc) irrelevant matter, such as a superfluous allegation
2. an excess of words
3. a less common word for surplus
Etymology: 1375-1425; late Middle English; see surplus, -age
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Yes. But. Grace can give us many gifts, not just faith. While faith comes through grace, it is faith that is essential.
I see grace as the mechanism through which faith is given. But, there are other gifts we can get through grace which, while good, are not essential to salvation. Faith is. Lots of folks do good deeds, but if they don’t act through the gift of faith they are just good things.
Being in Presidential Season, the immediate surplusage of speeches, quotes, analysies, commentary, clarifications and downright stupidity we will need to endure can only be countered by turning off the TV, Radio, and Computer.
A+++ it is going to be worse as time goes on, I know.
Yes, but that verse says Salvation is BY grace through faith. Faith is essential. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. The just shall live by faith. But it still comes back to BY GRACE you have been saved THROUGH faith. Either way, “good works” are a by-product, and certainly not the source of Salvation.
No surplusage of words here. Love what the Indian guy said:

That’s what I said, but Grace gives us more than faith and those other gifts are not essential to Salvation. Faith is, leaving it alone front and center. Aren’t we essentially saying the same thing?
That is a perfect description.
Exactly.
It might be a matter of semantics, but I believe the Scripturally correct statement is: We are saved BY grace through faith in Christ. Our faith (which is not even possible on our own) is not what saves us; the GRACE of God saves us through our assent to and exercise of the faith that He empowers us to receive. Our works can testify to our faith, but are only a by-product of salvation, not its source.
Getting testy when you’re a virtual nonentity is not a winning strategy.
He can’t help it.
It’s part of who he is.
I’ve been hustling estimates all day-and I’m not nearly the salesman that my compadre was...
The idiot in chief Obama
Looks more a fool each day
His surplusage of verbiage
Keeps getting into the way-
It trips right over his ego
And that leads him to think
No one will be offended if
He provides koolaid to drink
And then he drops the N word
Like what all the rappers spew
And at some venue called WTF-
Which was a dumb thing to do...
Is it just me, or is the really inflammatory and intolerant reaction to any imagined racist act by anybody in northern cities, while a probably real racist crime committed by a lunatic on drugs in the south shows all the people there to be an example of tolerance and Christian unity?
I guess that depends on if you consider St Louis to be a northern city.
I wouldn’t have 15 years ago, but it seems to have been corrupted by carpet bagging race hustlers over the last few, and that is a shame...
A++++ it’s almost impossible to listen to the news any more.
