Anyone who pans for gold hopes to be rewarded by the glitter of colors in the fine material collected in the bottom of the pan. Although the exercise and outdoor activity experienced in prospecting are rewarding, there are few thrills comparable to finding gold. Even an assay report showing an appreciable content of gold in a sample obtained from a lode deposit is exciting. The would-be prospector hoping for financial gain, however, should carefully consider all the pertinent facts before deciding on a prospecting venture.

Now see, that's where I'd like to get. I don't have any illusions of riches or anything, but as it happens I do have access to multiple junk pc's , etc.
I like the idea of selling it off as scrap without refining it myself, but think it might be kinda cool to be able to do so. Is there a big investment in equipment to smelter this stuff down?
Thanks for the well thought response, btw. Thus far, my forays into prospecting have been limited when it comes to gold, although we did find some good spots along the San Miguel here in CO. Otherwise, I do a lot of jewel prospecting.
I’m not a big prospector. My lifetime production is in a couple of small bottles in the safe deposit box. My cousin who lived in Nevada City, CA had several cigar boxes full of bottles in her closet. They were found by her son and daughter after she passed on in the 70s. There are any number of places you can sell it.

I’ve seen it done with household equipment and stuff you can buy at Wal-Mart/Lowes/HomeDepot.
Again, it depends on the volume your after.
For you and I, there are some relatively cheap ways you can do it... but there are also some risks involved with using acids or smelting foundries... so I would say the biggest expense is going to be in safety equipment.
You-Tube is LOADED with all sorts of How-To videos on this... I’ve been watching them extensively.
Right now, I’m focusing on efficiency of breaking down and separating components. I’ll worry about refining when I have enough to make it worthwhile.

Really??? easy public access??? I want to go!
When i lived in CO, I spent ALL of my prospecting time in Clear Creek in Golden.
Next time you're in Western Colorado territory, hit me up. We can go hit a few spots.
