The cause of an early morning fire north of San Diego was an electrocuted bird falling from an active power line
A bird carrying a snake in its talons struck power lines north of San Diego, sparking a hillside fire just west of The Merge.
San Diego Police arrived to the location on Dunhill Street near the intersection of Interstates 5 and 805 just before 6 a.m.
Flames were burning very close to businesses including the General Atomics building, officials said.
Officers called in San Diego Fire-Rescue crews who contained the fire within an hour.
Fire officials initially told NBC 7 a bird with a snake in its mouth was electrocuted on a power line and fell to the ground, sparking the fire. A photo released by officials later shows the snake in the hawk's grasp.
"A hawk that hit the high voltage power line, caught fire, and fell to the ground," SD Fire-Rescue spokesperson Lee Swanson said in a written release.
There were no structures damaged and no evacuations ordered.
This area of San Diego is home to many companies in the region's biochemical industry.
True, although I doubt making videos of hamsters would show up in labor-force participation statistics.
Ohhh, that fitz!
I’ll be headed for Walmart in a jiffy. I need milk before I can have breakfast.
And no, I didn’t sleep well.
I’m sorry you didn’t sleep well. I have to go to Walmart, too. I’m out of yogurt, and Kathleen is eating the last banana right now.
Later I’ll take a shower and then go to a funeral. Another of our ancient Knights of Columbus has died.
Every time I hear of K of C, I think of my late BiL. He was so handsome in his regalia!
Payers up for your friend’s family.
Thanks! He was living in Kentucky with his son when he died, but they wanted to have the funeral at St. Luke. Then he’ll be buried in Raleigh.
He was a nice man, very talkative. I took him supper when he was ill.
Good morning Monkey Face. I hope your day gets better once you get your milk.
I’m sorry your friend died.
Thanks.
Back from Walmart. The damage wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. At least I had the EBT for a buffer. Still, I didn’t get Pink Drink, and don’t know if I will.
I still have to get a prescription (the expensive one) for my nebulizer and try and get the car serviced before it dries up on me. I should have it done every six months, I guess, as that’s about 2,000 miles.
I DID remember to get Thank You cards, and that’s good. That I remembered, I mean. :o])
Was there a lot of people shopping? I want to go out to the grocery store for a few items today, but it’s one of those days where I’m just so tired I don’t think I will. My local supermarket is closed tomorrow. If I need a couple items I can go to WAWA.
Not a lot of people, but they have been changing things around in the store so I get lost every time I go there, lately. This morning, I had to drive all around the building from the back side because they had two of the front doors blocked off.
And then I couldn’t find the frame for the file drawer.
And I didn’t see any signs where it would be closed tomorrow, either. Not very Patriotic, Walmart is.
I remembered to get spray hair conditioner for Kathleen. She’s frizzy and unmanageable without it.
But he would have the devil of a time putting up siding in that outfit. :)
Some days, I think I would have to be twins in order to function as one person. It’s not safe to be me...
I was amazed that I got everything on the list this morning. I walked two miles doing it, but I got it all!!
Gotta go pick up the x-rays....
Later.
Tori and Chloe were hunting a chipmunk this morning. When I went outside the check on the kittehs the chipmunk was sitting on the fence chirping at them. He’s a fast little guy; they’ll only catch him in their dreams.
Dark wizards do not install siding.
Good for the chipmunk. I’m sure your cats aren’t really hungry!
I went to get the x-rays, but the tech isn’t in today, and won’t be in until Tuesday. I went to Staples to get a file frame and they didn’t open until 0900, so I thought maybe there was an office supply open by the other Walmart, so I drove over that way and saw that Jiffy Lube wasn’t busy, so I pulled in and had the truck serviced. I should have told them to put in 20-50 weight oil, but they gave me 5-30 instead. It would have been $20 more for high mileage.
By the time they were done, Staples was open so I went there and got the frame. I was going to go to Walmart to get the prescription and an additive for the gas tank, and decided all I wanted was some beer and potato salad.
It is 101 degrees and 23% and I’m done for the day. I DID get the truck washed, but they tore my front license plate half off and bent the dickens out of it. It’s not really their fault because the screws for it are off to the right, rather than in the middle of the front bumper. I don’t know how to change that...
It was a morning with mixed blessings, for sure.
