The man, identified by police as George Cross, 40, of Lynn, was dressed in a white plastic "Star Wars" stormtrooper costume, and the gun was not real. But Lynn Police spokesman Lt. Rick Donnelly said that "the way things are today, you can't have that."
The call came from the principal of the Brickett Elementary School on Lewis Street (Route 1A) at around 1:30 p.m., as classes were about to wind up for the day, said Donnelly.

So your FIRST reaction would be to call law enforcement?
If so, then you are a victim of the insane fear that has gripped so many in our nation. Your FIRST response should be to resolve the situation yourself, especially if you are in a leadership position.
If you can’t do that, or don’t know how, or are paralyzed with fear about what might be, then I sure don’t see how you could be responsible for the safety and well-being of hundreds of children.
Or visit a children’s hospital! There’s a big group of such where I live. They’re a scary bunch for sure. It’s funny though because the folks in my area make the news for being so cool and for making children smile. But in my area, the school has laser tag at school with scary looking guns. The horror!
On the other hand, you might expect some high school kid to pull a prank like this. Not a 40-year-old grown man who should know better and should also have better things going on in his life then to dress up like a character from some cheesy movie.
As for the loitering charge, was anybody else aware that there was a law against "loitering" within 1,000 feet of a school? What other laws like that are out there that we don't even know about? Guess we are a nation of outlaws and we don't even know it.
I agree on both counts. If the police just had to show they should have told him to move along and warned him about the loitering law, making it clear that if he showed up hanging around again then they would arrest him for violation of that law. If he showed up again despite the warning, then its clear you may be dealing with someone who has issues.
Where did I say that? Anyway, no time now. Have to get ready to leave house.
You were defending her reaction. She could have sent the school security guard to talk to the guy, but she called the cops. You said you didn’t blame her. That she was correct for doing so. That was her first reaction, and you supported her.
It was a ridiculous reaction, and one you support.
I didn’t even know all that. I agreed with a policy of not allowing people to walk around openly carrying what could be a gun, unless of course they are authorized. I know there are a lot of fine lines with that where good common sense judgement is necessary.
If someone with a weapon is contemplating shooting someone else in a group of who is wearing a costume merely because they appear to be armed, then they don’t have a problem. They are a problem.
And Bloomberg has employment for them, as they are fellow travelers.
“I find the schools lack of humor disturbing.”
Natan Sharansky has a beautiful explanation of why totalitarians cannot tolerate humor. And why intolerance for humor is a good tool for identifying them.
The stormtrooper is real. The principal is fake.
Wasn’t he a little short for a Storm Trooper?
Lol, I like doing the Eastwood thing with the real deal. Too many wolves, cougars and bears running around.
Actually most of the original trilogy guns (including the storm trooper blaster) were kit bashed onto real guns, and most can be replicated while leaving the gun in working order. Which isn’t saying you should shutdown a school because somebody shows up in costume, but to point out it’s entirely outside the realm that a highly dedicated nut could have a real gun in their SW costume.
Here’s some interesting pics:

You don`t shoot very much, do you?
Naah, that's not possible. Did that ever happen to you, punk?
