WILLIAMSON, W.V. Students and parents are rallying to the defense of a teacher who is accused of violating federal school snack rules.
The Williamson PreK-8 teacher, who was not identified, would give her students wrapped candy as a reward for their hard work and good behavior.
Because the practice was an alleged violation of the federal rules championed by first lady Michelle Obama, Mingo County Schools Director of Child Nutrition Kay Maynard placed a call to officials at the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) to report the incident, the Williamson Daily News reports.
Maynard also spoke to Williamson PreK-8 principal Shannon Blackburn, telling him about the possibility of a monetary fine for the teacher.
When news spread, parents and student mobilized, collecting pennies to pay the potential fine on the teachers behalf.

The school’s “nutritional” director turned her in to the State.
Where in the Constitution does it make the first lady the maker of food rules and the head of the food police?
“Where in the Constitution does it make the first lady the maker of food rules and the head of the food police?”
Ha!!!
You must be one of those people stuck in the America of the past.
This is the new, fundamentally-transformed Amerikca, where the constitution is just an outdated, racist piece of paper.
What a Nazi.
Hear, hear.
Using this school as an example, please considerthe following. Is it any wonder that citizens dont understand the federal governments constitutionally limited powers since the school community probably doesn't understand that all that they have to point out concerning this teacher is that the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate intrastate school lunches?
It makes you want to take a big bag of candy to the nearest school play ground.
LOL. You can be on the nightly news.
When I was in grade school I lived across the street from the school and was allowed to come home for lunch, on the corner of our street was a candy store, I would take orders from other kids in school and purchase candy for them and add a few cents for my trouble. guess today I would be thrown in jail.
Burn her!!!
somebody send Ms. Stasi a bunch of daisies.
I thought these were supposed to be suggestions - isn't that what m. obama said?
She’d have burned you. ‘Got out just in time.
Abolish the office.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Michelle Obama has 0 power to require or enforce anything on anyone.
This wasn’t her decision. Her preference, no doubt, but not her decision.
This is an outrage, but should be directed at the locals, state and federals who allow it.
First Ladies need to keep their yaps shut in general, but put the blame where it belongs & does the most good.
And just where is the legislation that was passed into law that justifies fining this teacher?
Until that comes to light I would tell them all to piss off.
Our state, county, federal governments are full of female morons who are ripping off the taxpayers. The perfect apparatchiks
Are they certain they didn’t import them from my state?
Someone looked around and said “we don’t have enough morons in politics, so let’s place an order for some from new york” and someone actually did so?
I’m used to seeing such idiocy here in my state.
I taught 2nd grade in Atlanta for a few years before quitting to raise my own kids. I always had a jar of fruity marshmallows on my desk. They were like magic for getting kids back on task. Guessing that wouldn’t be allowed anymore.
