BEDFORD, KY (WAVE) Several parents are fired up after hearing a student's hot lunch was dumped in the trash in front of her classmates because her lunch account was past due.
Parents claim Bedford Elementary School did something it preaches against: In their words, "bullying" the child, not to mention wasting food to embarrass her.
On May 20 an elementary school lunch was packed with a hidden punch a child never saw coming.
"Someone came and took her lunch while she was sitting there with her friends and everybody else," said the girl's aunt, Leslie Chilton, who also happens to be the Bedford Elementary PTO Treasurer.
Chilton said it would be embarrassing for any child who has no idea their lunch account had a negative balance.
"An actual employee told me that afternoon because I was at school," she said of the incident." It was awful to think about her being there, sitting there and she was crying. She's a shy girl anyway, she's 10 years old and she's knows what's going on."

Government does so by bullying. It’s what they do. Every problem is a nail.
Meanwhile all the kids who have “free” lunches trash their own lunch.

I wonder if this school is planning to serve free breakfasts and lunches to students over the summer (some of our local public schools are doing so). If so, how can they be upset over a overdrawn lunch account when they plan to give it away for nothing in a month.
The typical elementary school, whether public, private or charter, is crammed full of adults with low self esteem and high authority over some aspect of student welfare.
You would be at turns amused, baffled and disgusted at all the petty backstabbing and one-ups-manship that is common in the bureaucracy. Just like in the military, or in a Medical Center, many folks find this environment a place to live out your base compulsions to control others, by any means necessary. I’m glad a policy change is seriously (and finally) being considered.
Seems like there have been other incidents like this; kids denied food and humiliated in front of others for accounting screw-ups.
At the OP site, some “lady” is in turn blaming Michelle Obama for “making them do it.”
Well they at least ought to get this kind of thing right before passing out the lunch; if they don’t, then don’t snatch it back.
If this were a case of prolonged neglect it might be a different thing, but this is just draconian, as well as bearing the signature wastefulness that we were first shown in “Cash for Clunkers” which destroyed a lot of good cars that didn’t have to be used in a wasteful way to still be useful. I don’t know who would not have personally chipped in the cost if that is what it took.
M O R E ??!!
Ungrateful little urchins. Don’t they know how many millions of dollars the wealth-creating entrepreneurs at the NEA create on behalf of taxpayers every year?
I smell BS on this.
Anyone who did that to my kid would be in for the beat down of a lifetime, consequences be damned.

Name the bitch who did it. Hey, it’s just policy, nothing to be afraid of - right? She shamed that little girl to the school, so she can stand up for herself to the world - right?
NAME HER.
The News Cartel always protects slithering snakes like this when they are “officials” and “authorities”. That has really angered me for years.
All the simpering slackjawed dipshits at the school had to do was send the parents a note about payment.
My local school district went to free lunch for everyone to remove the stigma of free lunch for the poor
Just like they never named the NC govt worker who took a child’s healthy lunch- turkey sandwich, string cheese and an apple- and threw it away, saying it didn’t meet nutritional requirements and made her buy school lunch fried chicken tenders, she will NEVER be named.
One guess as to probably why.
School custodians, lunch ladies and secretaries never miss an opportunity to exercise a little sadistic power over children, parents and teachers. Ignoring the bad behavior doesn’t make it go away, much the same way ignoring a bully tends to empower them.
Her school did this to my granddaughter in the first grade over ten cents! The hell they received was not worth it, believe me.
