While Duggar patriarch Jim Bob has remained relatively silent concerning his son's admission to molesting five young girls, he was abundantly clear about his hardline views on punishment for rape and incest perpetrators during his failed 2002 run for the U.S. senate.
During his campaign Jim Bob stated his belief that 'rape and incest represent heinous crimes and as such should be treated as capital crimes', according to a web cache of his campaign website.
His extreme view is stated in a section in which he explained his position on abortion.

Oops...
Conservative Christians of all denominations have suffered a great blow from this recent incident.
Thin ice doesn’t even describe what you’re standing on. Someone remind me to check back in a week and see if this one is still here.
Really.
The guy admitted the indiscretions to his family, was kicked off his job, took full responsibility for his actions and is paying a huge price. No one is justifying his actions or trying to say he didn’t do it.
It was only by the grace of God I didn’t fool around with a bunch of my cousins at that time of my life.
Where is the hypocrisy in that?
And what does that have to do with educational attainment.
FR seems to be remarkably brouhaha-prone recently. I could say a lot, and I’d probably end up as chief scapegoat though not exactly zotted.
There are some versions of observance that lean more to “rules taught by men” than to understanding the deeper desires of the Lord. Those former versions tend to starve for grace. Lack of grace radiates outward and has unfortunate side effects.
How old were your cousins at the time? Five? That is, I believe, how old one of these girls allegedly was at the time.
If the challenge alerts them to the fact that they need something that goes beyond moralizing to make their public case, then it will not have been an utter tragedy.
Amen!
Re: “Evangelicals and self-described Fundamentalists generally underwent a self-imposed cultural ghettoization which to some extent involved a contraction of educational attainment.”
First, even your statement were true, what does that have to do with the story in the article, and, second, what evidence do you have to support your statement above?
What a complete tool!
Are they Christians? Or Quiverfull cultists?
What a zotworthy load of crap. Did liberals and Hollywood types suffer a great blow when it was revealed Lean Dunham, without remorse, gleefully told the world about molesting her one-year old sister?
What Duggar did contradicts Biblical law. Only someone not very bright doesn't realize that and would connect all Christians to what occurred.
As a conservative Christian, I haven’t suffered at all, except inasmuch as my heart breaks for the daughters in this family who were subject to this monster and his actions and the subsequent cover up by their parents and community.
Conservative Christians need to make it clear that they do not support this behaviour, nor do they support the way it was handled.
Seriously?
Most Christians understand this is a serious moral failing on this kids and family...which he is currently paying the price...
Most people understand this is a reflection of his moral failing not a moral failing of all conservative christians..
So this great blow you are talking about is what?
Non-christians will think all Christians are now hypocrites ?
Yeah, that must be it...
Personally, I don't consider the quiverfull movement to be cultic. If folks want to have as many children as God sends them, I'm for it as long as they can support the kids.
The Duggars are part of the Bill Gothard cult. Gothard dictates the style of clothing (women covered neck to feet, like Islam), length of hair, etc. And Gothard himself had to step down over allegations of sexual abuse/harassment by 34 young women.

You know maybe it’s just me but I really don’t recall that Jesus said I had to have my hair or skirt a certain length in order to go to Heaven.
A 15-year-old fooling around with a 13-year-old cousin is understandable. A 15-year-old repeatedly abusing his 4 and 5-year-old sisters is a very disturbed individual.
