In the interval from the Scopes Monkey Trial (1925) to the release of the film Inherit the Wind (1960), most Americans' educational prospects expanded remarkably, with the GI Bill of Rights, whereas, Evangelicals and self-described Fundamentalists generally underwent a self-imposed cultural ghettoization which to some extent involved a contraction of educational attainment.
