Google has filed a patent for a toy that pays attention to who is in the room and that can interact with other media devices.
...
"The anthropomorphic device may be a doll or a toy that resembles a human, an animal, a mythical creature or an inanimate object," the published patent said.
The toys could also have face and voice recognition.

Projecting life and soul onto/into lifeless things is nearly as old as creation. I do not see much good coming of this, since both life and soul are God’s to create and sustain, while we are enjoined to love both God and man as opposed to idols. This age, as every age, is inclined to cheapen life.
