Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls....
I need some input on a handgun. I was gifted a Colt Python (.357 magnum) from my father. I'd like to know what this thing is worth.
I have a neighbor that was getting rid of one, and asked if I wanted to buy it for $400.00. He didn’t know what it was or what it was worth. I checked the prices, and told him what the gun was worth before asking if he still wanted to sell if for that amount. He was thankful, and wound up giving it to one of his sons. Dang my conscience.
Great information, folks! Thanks!
I guess my next question is: How do I keep Pops from knowing how much the gun he gave me is worth?
You’d have to know him to understand the importance of that.
I might have to tell HIM about my boating accidents!

Those are stock.
Got some napkins out of the truck and made some ear plugs.
That first shot HURT !!!
Guns are scary and dangerous. Give it to someone qualified to handle the horror that is a firearm. I am just such a person.
I have a Colt SAA in .357 that I inherited from my father. It is the first firearm
I ever saw and heard fired at about age six. I doubt that I would ever let it go.
I might go as high as $375.
Beautiful firearm. If it were mine I wouldnt let it go for any less than 25 $100 bills.
Take it out and shoot it. You aint gonna hurt it and it is really gonna impress you.
Then reconsider the above price accordingly.
Thats some serious jaw dropping gun porn ya got there.
A good man's burden! ;-)
No, you are NOT!!
I've been around these threads, buddy! I'm no rube!
And you've got a reputation for HITTING people!
PSHAW!
Yes, some came with factory Pachmayrs.
The way they are trending, they’ll hit $3000 soon.
It’s your Dad’s gun, if it had been left to me I wouldn’t sell it for any price.
When I take it out and look at it, I feel like Tony Montana...or some other drug dealer.
It is a very serious piece of metal.
“Revolvers like that are a leading cause of major boating accidents”
Yeah. I lost one just like that rowing across the Delaware. Same serial number, too.
Let’s have an auction right here on FR. Can we do that?
`Cannot blame a guy for trying.
You’ve got to know...I’ve had several responses just like yours.
And I’m not thinking about selling it.
First: Dad gave it to me. While he’s still alive. He knew I thought it was beautiful. I’ll inherit all of his guns, but he gave me this one because he knew I admired it.
Second: They just don’t make ‘em like this anymore. I’ve got maybe 30 guns...handguns and rifles. And this is just somehow special...as a machine.
Third: This thing has a personality! It’s not just a gun. I’ve got AK’s, AR’s...all painted up and camo’d, etc. But this thing has a “weight” all on its own.
But the comments here are terrific! And yours (as well as others) speaks to my point. I don’t mean to sell it. But I’d like to know what it’s worth.
Thanks...
Why not?
Who says?
But, why would he have left it to you?!
