Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls....
I need some input on a handgun. I was gifted a Colt Python (.357 magnum) from my father. I'd like to know what this thing is worth.
These days, I'm not particularly a revolver guy... especially one of this size/weight. I USED to be, but I lean towards semi's these days.
Anyhoo...I know it's an amazing piece of craftsmanship and a wonderful handgun. But I have no idea of its value in the market. I'd also like to know any other good stuff about the gun: Its reputation, its history...anything you can contribute.
And yes, I've Googled it! Very interesting and very prestigious pedigree.
What I was hoping was someone(s) here could give me an idea. Don't know if I want to sell it, but I'd like to know what it's worth; if nothing more than for insurance purposes. And then what it's worth as a keepsake (besides the obvious that it came from my dad.)
Serial number (I think!) is: 139959.
If you've got some input, I'd love to hear it.
Thanks, gobs.

What I'm
Here’s my input: keep it! Maybe put the original grips back on, too. Pachmayrs work well, but they are ugly.
Il give you 250 bucks for it right now call me 714-366-xxxx
I’ll give him $300
“If you’ve got some input, I’d love to hear it.”
Being a .357, if you don’t wear hearing protection when you try it out, you won’t hear anything for a while.
$2500 and up depending on the box and condition. Too nice to use but fun to fondle.
That’s a nice gun. For some reason, people go crazy when they see the bucking Colt emblem. Anything that says “Colt” on it goes for about 3 times what it’s worth.
Actually...I think those grips were on it when he got it. Are they not Colt stock?!
:)
They are worth quite a lot of money. You’ll have to go to a gun auction website to get some idea of their value. Unless you’re in desperate need of money don’t sell it!
A Colt Python from your father? I would put the value at approximately the same as the Colt .45 ACP that I inherited from my uncle: priceless.
It’s not worth very much. Probably not even worth keeping around, but I’d be willing to forego the salvage and scrap fees just to help you get rid of it.
I can’t add anything you probably haven’t already found out.
They were unusually well finished, had one of the smoothest actions of any revolver tho it was basically the same as many of the other old Colts.
They had a reputation for accuracy and for going out of time after a lot of shooting. I have read that a gunsmith could put it back in proper condition but I have always preferred the medium frame Smiths just for that reason.
I have owned in my lifetime probably over a thousand guns but for some reason never had a python.
Value? Probably somewhere over a thousand depending.
Really?!! You will?!!
Probably even MORE valuable right now because of this:
Keep it. It will stay ahead of any other investment you might have.
I don’t know, man....I had a guy already offer me $250 for it!
I think you’re trying to get to me.
I’m from Texas. Just ‘cause we talk slow doesn’t mean we think slow.
Hey!
That even LOOKS like me!
