Borgnine was excellent in the movie and it made him a star.

Ernest Borgnine played “Marty’’, not Rod Steiger.

Steiger played the part first on TV.
Borgnine did the movie the following year.

Didn’t know Marty was originally a tv production. I can definitely see Steiger in the role, though. Steiger was a phenomenal actor.

Loved the Borgnine movie, too. Frank Sutton (Sgt. Carter from Gomer Pyle) has a decent-sized part as one of Marty’s friends.

As far as Paddy Chayefsky goes, I think he must be looking down from Heaven, laughing and saying “I told you so!” Everything he predicted in Network has come to pass in media circles, and then some.

I liked it but didn’t think It was an Oscar winner. But that’s just me. but I remember those nights at the club as I got older thinking what am I doing here.

The play wears better than the movie because elf all the necessary close ups.

Borgnine made it past 95, and was apparently in good health until the end. Good run.

I remember watching the TV original on the pathetic little old black and white TV we had.

We thought it was quite miraculous.

I had to look to see if she was in it. She was. I remember when Borgnine married her, and wondered if he needed his head examined. It only lasted about a month.

Worked in a movie with Rod. He was a nice guy and we talked for hours about alcoholism. He told me his life story.
