The military is presently under a national spotlight regarding women in combat, with branches testing how women can physically handle grueling physical standards associated with combat arms training. A video going viral adds some interesting context to that. The video shows a U.S. Army captain, who is a woman, completing a 12-mile ruck march on a course that is open to women and outside of the discussion on women in combat arms the Expert Field Medical Badge course. The competitive decoration is open to soldiers in the medical field and is one of the toughest decorations to earn.
In the video, Capt. Sarah Cudd grinds out the final steps of a 12-mile ruck march that had to be completed in three hours as part of the qualifications for the course. Its one of the most grueling courses in the Army; a 2013 Army report describes the success rate as just 17%. Cudd, an Army veterinarian, joins those ranks in an extremely motivating fashion.
The video was posted to Facebook April 28, by Capt. Lloyd Mason, whose Facebook page describes him as the program manager for the Expert Field Medical Badge course at Fort Dix, New Jersey. The video has been shared more than 22,000 times since.
Its fiercely motivating Cudd can be seen gritting it out just a few dozen feet from the finish line. She crumples to the ground from exhaustion twice, and is slow to rise each time. The determination, however, is palpable, as is the energy and support from the onlooking soldiers who surround her. The crowds cheers grow as Cudd gets nearer to the finish line. When she finally crosses it, shes surrounded by supportive soldiers; the cheers are deafening, and she immediately collapses. The time on the clock reads 2 hours, 46 minutes, and 53 seconds. She had three hours.
The U.S. Armys Public Health Command shared the video to Facebook days later, saying Cudd shows us all what never quitting looks like.
The Expert Field Medical Badge course also involves tasks surrounding tactical combat care, medical and casualty evacuation, warrior skills, and communication; as well as a physical fitness test; a land navigation course; weapons qualifications; and a comprehensive written test.
Task & Purpose reached out to a former Army combat medic, Samuel Innocent, who served with the 10th Mountain Division in Fort Drum, New York. He described the course as, The second-hardest badge in the Army to get outside of the Infantry Expert Badge.
Thank God, you got off the topic long ago, and all this stuff about your feelings was pretty gross.
Not as gross as your exploiting Christ to make insults and to pose as superior to more politically conservative people, but gross none the less.
Oh, now you are bringing in reinforcements.
You are the bully standing in the school yard claiming aggrieved status. Everyone knows you are a punk, and yet you turn to the adults to protect you.
You are a tedious little Alinsky followers. You insult, ridicule, pretend to be offended.
You care so much for my military records its a little sad. What difference does that make? I choose not to discuss my past. My personal bio is pretty clear, and I do not have to defend my background to you—someone who has never posted any personal information.
Your only defense is to attack others. Travis saw that post. I am sure he went back and read the posts leading up to his being drawn into that conversation. You lead him to believe I wrote things I did not write and have never written. When he found out you lied, I am sure he was embarrassed. Now you try to bring him back in. That is so sad.
So, I apologize for going to bed last night without discussing this further. My wife was ready to go to sleep and my time with her is much more important than trading insults with you. Do you remember what it was like to have someone care about you? I am sure if you did, she left. And really, if you are like this at home who could blame her or him.
No reinforcements, didn’t you read my post?
I wanted to find out what you are trolling about, when was the last time that I had posted to you that turned you into a stalker, and I found that thread.
It seems that the thread that turned you into a stalker, was ALSO ABOUT FEMALES AND THE MILITARY, Lieutenant, who has never served and who tries to give the impression of being a vet on his home page, and as I said in that post, by looking it up, I also found out that you had kept posting ABOUT me, without pinging me, and I showed that post.
Rather than stay on that thread, you are now a stalker, a troll, carrying your personal grudge to other threads, totally wrecking THIS thread about females and the military.
Really? You are a broken record: Look at his bio! He’s a troll! He’s picking on me.
You write like a child.
As I said many times before, I took the oath. You may call me sir. That is all you are going to get from me on that because for the context of this conversation it means nothing.
But, in the context of this conversation I have called upon you to answer my questions: Why do you continue to bully people using Alinsky-ite processes of ridicule, persecution, and claiming of victim status. Are you even aware you are a bully?
Whenever I get into these arguments with you, you deflect, obfuscate, and set up straw men (Look at his bio!) But you refuse to acknowledge my questions to you.
Are you unaware of your process? Are you even able to comprehend how your comments and actions make this site unreadable? Are you aware how your way of commenting is degrading, and completely disrespectful? Are you aware that every time I start in on your I get an average of three or four private messages telling me to simply ignore you.
I would ignore you. But the moderators do not do their job. They do not recognize the horrible way you treat people who are simply expressing an opinion. They fail to see that people are leaving FR in flocks due to the cabal you have around you—picking fights and ridiculing anyone with an alternative opinion.
All I am asking is that you show a little damned respect.
And then answer my questions.
My gosh, you are on the second day of this panty twisting whining and weeping?
You need to get over this obsession with me and end the stalking, if you want to push your liberal politics, then argue the topics of the threads, but this school girl crying and weepy insults is against FR policy, as is the stalking.
If the moderators would do their job, they would tell you to quit stalking and either focus on the thread topic or move on.
You evidently have females in the military as one of your obsessions, care to get go back to that last thread on the SEALs and females, to pick up the discussion that you refused to have, and decided to switch to becoming a stalker about?
To be a combat veterinarian, the completion of the forced march is required.
The point is, that one is must be able to do more then survive the hike, one must be able to march and fight after one arrives at the destination.
So what happens to the other 83% of men and women who historically haven’t been able to pass this cake walk?
