The more we learn about Manny Pacquiao's shoulder injury, the uglier it looks for all sides involved.
The shoulder injury Pacquiao suffered prior to his fight with Floyd Mayweather was much more serious than it initially sounded, and now it turns out that Pacquiao will need surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff.
While the immediate effect of the surgery is that it will sideline Pacquiao for up to a year and eliminate the already dim hopes for a rematch, the injury has caused a further mess as people try to figure out who knew about it, why it wasn't reported, and why Pacquiao was denied treatment prior to the fight.
According to Dashon Johnson, one of Pacquiao's sparring partners, the injury occurred a "few weeks" prior to the fight and that it was so significant the sparring partners were sent home because Pacquiao couldn't fight with the injury. Johnson said that he was instructed to keep it a secret.
Despite supposedly being unable to fully train in the weeks before the fight, Pacquiao signed a pre-fight medical questionnaire "under penalty of perjury" at the weigh-in with a check mark "No" next to the question, "Have you had any injury to your shoulders, elbow, or hands that needed evaluation or examination?"

There's his out; already evaluated and examined, no need remained. Hat tip to the Toon for the parsing lessons.
If he had disclosed the injury on the questionnaire, they would have. As it was, they requested one before the fight and it was denied because he had claimed to be healthy.
The little people bet on Manny by a 3-1 margin. The big money was all on Mayweather’s side. The cartels and pros made their cash shearing the sheep.
One of the consistent stories around this fight has been that Mayweather wouldn’t fight until Pacquiao’s team agreed to an extended period of drug testing since they believed Manny had been on the juice for years.
RE: I know they didn’t want to cancel the fight because of all the money but the commission should have let Manny numb it with an injection before the fight.
They won’t have to cancel the fight, they could have postponed it for a few months until the shoulder has time to heal.
It could have been Just a rescheduling issue.
Perhaps, but Samoots and Tough Tony’ll have to find him on Mindanao, hiding amongst machete wielding Moro tribesman.
Innocent mistake..like Jeb listing himself as “hispanic.”
Boxing is one of the few activities which I believe would actually benefit from federal oversight.
Pacquiao may have had a torn rotator cuff but he was willing to fight. Mayflower not so much. Waste of a hundred bucks.
Mayweather kept clinching and hugging Manny so much that I thought he actually LOVED Pacquiao :)
Yup. And the ballerina crap would favor your suggestion.
That’s the way Mayweather stacked up his wins. He’s a technical boxer, keeps the other guy from getting hits, stacks up points, wins rounds on paper, wins the bought by decision. It was exactly the fight that was predicted. Which is exactly why I had no interest in watching. He’s not a fun boxer, in many ways he’s not really even a good boxer, but he does know how to win.
Maidonna beat his ass and should have won the decision. Pacqiauo hut Mayweather a couple of times and was never hurt while fighting him with one arm. I know I am biased. I can’t stand Mayweather or the way he fights.
In the olden days the ref would have warned a couple of times, then called the fight for his opponent due to his unwillingness to actually FIGHT.
Compare this travesty to the Hagler - Hearns fight in 1985.
Not really. Mayweather fights the way Olympic boxing has been done for ages, and has dominated the lower weight classes. It’s all about getting a few more hits on your opponent than he gets on you each round, point based boxing. Not exciting.
It is boring. And by this point in his career it’s predictable, and was predicted by most of the touts.
