Where do America's most racist people live? "The rural Northeast and South," suggests a new study just published in PLOS ONE.
The paper introduces a novel but makes-tons-of-sense-when-you-think-about-it method for measuring the incidence of racist attitudes: Google search data. The methodology comes from data scientist Seth Stephens-Davidowitz. He's used it before to measure the effect of racist attitudes on Barack Obama's electoral prospects.

No kidding. Why is the western upper peninsula of Michigan considered racist? There are few people there and even fewer ethic groups.
Its OK. Its a map for morons anyway.
The most racist (in words/language) town I know is the least racist (in behavior) town I know. I asked once how they can talk like that but treat the blacks in town so nicely and was told “they aren’t blacks, they are our neighbors”. One of the black men there said “they aren’t talking about us, they are talking about ‘city blacks’ and I agree with them”. And they all treat each other like good neighbors and even family.
They even treated blacks passing through better than blacks are treated in my “non-racist” city. Most parties in my “non-racist” city the blacks (if there are any) are on one side of the house/yard and the whites on the other. But you won’t hear anything racist being said. In the “racist” town the parties are always completely mixed including black visitors.
It’s hard to tell what anyone means when they say “racism”. If you criticize Obama’s policies you can be considered racist by many.
“Racism” is a term created by progressives for the sole purpose of inducing guilt in white people.
So, if I base my survey on the instances and locations of word searches for the N-Word, how do I remove the case of blacks doing the search, say as in “who dat N-word rapper I likes so much?”
I guess you just have to be there when this buttwipe researcher spiels off the backstory using all kinds of technical words for “I searched for who/where typed N-word” on Google.
If you want to show that rural whites in the counties west of the East Coast megalopolis and its satellites of metro Atlanta and the North Carolina Golden Triangle are "raciss", you use your secret decoder ring to divine these sentiments out of Bubba's tweets.
The graph has no indication of an “average” level of racism, whatever that may mean.
The author assumes that (only) black people use the “-a” variant and excludes that from the search results. Which - in itself - is a racist assumption.
And THAT is why it's Racist! (liberal think)
I find this kind of research rather niggardly in actual value to remedying the underlying problem.
Additionally, it perpetuates its own stereotype in the concept that racism is only black&white. Go out to the Southwest and ask about pejoratives used against (checking for current PC-acceptable usage) ‘Native Americans’.
Ah well, back to the government for another grant!
You really can’t draw any meaningful conclusions from the data. But if we want to use such trash as this map as a basis for conclusions then we can say:
1) Where there are more blacks there is more racism.
2) Where there are fewer blacks there is less racism.
Just sayin’.
I’m using your map for a relocation guide!
I wonder why there would be “No Data” zones in northern Mississippi and central Alabama?
It shows Eastern NM and we have around 1% black and the area that they show in Texas doesn’t have huge populations of blacks.
It really makes no sense.
Indeed, I imagine the typical Google query is “Where’s a n***** get some weed?”
Damned racist Amish.
In the late 70’s, I lived in Boone NC and there was one black kid in the local high school. He didn’t have any choice but to date white girls. When he moved to “the flatlands” to go to college, he was amazed at that white girls refused to talk to him. Other black guys were amazed that he dated white girls in HS.
Houston,

I don’t believe Houston is in the red area...
someone should do an overlay of this map and the racial dot map:
http://demographics.coopercenter.org/DotMap/index.html
The most ‘racist’ areas also have the most green dots (for blacks).
Again, I have come to the inevitable conclusion that there are far worse things in the world than racism...But try telling that to Obama, Holder, Jackson, Sharpton, Shabazz, etc., etc., etc.
