BOSTON (WHDH) -
A dog who ingested nearly three wrist watches is recovering after undergoing a procedure to remove the pieces at the MSPCA's Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston.
Mocha, a 5-year-old Isabella Doberman, was taken to the facility after her owners found pieces of watches on the floor of their home.
"She had somehow managed to open a drawer, go inside and pull out three watches and some assorted pieces of leather jewelry and she ate them," said her owner, Jeff Courcelle, who rushed her to the hospital.
"They took an X-Ray and she looked mechanical inside. There were gears and springs and all kinds of little pieces of metal," Courcelle said. "There were some very long pieces of untouched leather that she just sort of inhaled and went about her business."
The vet said Mocha's owners admitted her just in time.
"Because we got her there so fast, very few pieces of the debris had actually started traveling into her digestive system so that's why they were able to get almost everything out in that one procedure," Courcelle said.
Over the course of a three-hour endoscopic procedure, doctors removed as much as they could from Mocha's stomach. The remaining pieces should pass through naturally.
Courcelle said he thought Mocha may have had an ulterior motive.
"Those were all of my functioning watches. But I think she might have overheard me talking to wife that I wanted to pick up an Apple watch and I couldn't justify it because I had three working watches, so that situation has been taken care of," he said.
And even though it was a time-consuming snack, Mocha's owners are just happy she keeps on ticking.
"We're very lucky because this could have gone badly, obviously, and we're very very thankful to the doctors at Angell Memorial for taking such good care of her," Courcelle said.
Now thinks he’s a springer spaniel.
He’s just passing the time.
A great watch dog.
Good doggy! You were just trying to help!
>> Doberman
I’m surprised the watches were not still attached to wrists. :-)
Hope one is an iWatch so that Apple can advertise their iDobie
My dog had ticks once.
he ‘ingested neary three wrist watches...’ ? nearly three?
Which is also nearly two, just the other way on the scale.
Now that’s what I call a watchdog. He really wants to be on time.
Seriously though I’m glad he’s doing well after the surgery to remove the time pieces.
I love Angell Memorial. They saved my Samoyed’s life when he ingested an entire bottle of Valium.
Steampunk Doberman!
New Apple watches?
Just be thankful that none of them were still attached to a wrist....
