A sniff of the network while the device is on can sometimes point out 'unexpected' communications with unknown devices. If it's a different platform.

Johnny. The iPhone has been tested every which way for that kind of spying in just the way you suggest and it has not been found. The Apple Watch has to go through the iPhone. QED. Apple has not been found spying on anybody to date, why should they start now? The Watch has no camera. So, no spying by camera. It does have a microphone. . . but it has to work through the iPhone. The iPhones have been tested for what you are looking for over years and been given a clean bill of health. Ergo, no spying.

You can be as pessimistic as you want. . . but every time some one has claimed to have found "spying" by Apple it has turned out to not be what they thought at all. Apple has made it impossible for even Apple to break into your iOS devices and get your data or into your iCloud accounts because it is encrypted to 256 AES standards and only YOU have the keys. Apple does not and cannot get them. If the government demands access, Apple cannot give it to them. . . because, again, they do not have the keys. YOU do.

For anyone to decrypt your data without your key if you use just a 16 character passcode, which is turned into a HASH, which then gets entangled with the device's UUID, would require trying every one of the 220140 possible key combinations. To do that would take 492 undecillion years. That's 49.2 times 1035 years. Since the half life of a proton is quite a bit less than that, the Universe would have long since returned to the primordial soup of quarks and other basic particles before they finished trying to find your key. . . and I think it might be moot by then.

Well my I Pad does and squeals about any searches I make.

You don't own an iPad. If you did, you'd know it isn't spelled "I Pad". And if you did and were using Google Search, then it was Google who squealed.

“...my trust for Tim Cook remains as before.”
*******************************************************************************
I agree with you on that. Cook does the Apple organization, Apple employees, Apple stockholders and Apple customers no favors when he strays from his actual Apple responsibilities and kibitzes on something unrelated driven by his personal homosexual feelings. He needs to stick to the things that are truly relevant to his job duties such as managing Apple’s supply chain management problems and his duties as CEO to engage in the strategic direction of Apple

Well typing on one now know it all. I don’t use google nor allow it products on my machine. You arrogance will be your downfall.

Well typing on one now know it all. I don’t use google nor allow it products on my machine. You arrogance will be your downfall.

And you don't know the names of your products you own? Have you set your search engine to another something other than Google? It is possible, but the default on an iPad is still Google. Your negative comments on Apple with lies about how it "squeals about any searches I make" when Apple users know that their iPads do not do that. Telling such a claim to Apple users who know the truth of how Apple products work will be YOUR downfall.

Frankly, I simply do not believe you. I have had just too much experience with such claims on Apple threads over ten years. I am rarely wrong about this call.

I may be wrong in your case, but you raise lots of red flags that indicate you are trolling. First your claim is just not factual. Secondly, a real Apple iPad user will KNOW that it is spelled iPad. Non-Apple users spell it I-Pad or Ipad. If you were using an iPad, the iPad would correct the spelling. Finally, the immediate ad hominem attack on me. All red flag signs of the common Anti-Apple troll.

“Methinks thou doth protest too much!”

Which is defined in your case as meaning ... “Overly insistent to the point where the opposite is most likely true.”

You’re raising more questions about yourself, rather than others ... LOL ...

LOL ... you’ve confused Apple with Google ... :-) ...

Not only that, but you apparently don’t know what product you own ... if you actually do own one.

Look at the mess the anti-Apple Brigade have made of the thread. . . 26 replies and NOT ONE about the content of the article this thread is about. . . all because the disrupters have come in with negative nasty comments. What a shame. They have learned nothing from the events of the last several days and the ZOTTING that Jim Robinson was forced to do because of the outrageous behavior of one of the Apple Haters. It is business as usual for the Anti-Apple brigade.

These vandals purpose is to make all Apple threads inhospitable for dialogue by the people who just want to discuss things about Apple, and Apple products, the tools the 700 members plus a LOT more Freepers use to browse FreeRepublic. Yet a small minority would rather act like juvenile delinquents and throw feces and draw their names on the walls and break windows, littering trash in the threads.

The AM even deleted my PING to the Apple group to this thread because I dared mention that events of that ZOTTING. WHY???? Are we hiding that event? Are we sweeping it under the rug? Are PINGS verboten???? That was the reason for my challenge for raising money for FREEREPUBLIC and the AM DELETED IT! WHAT GIVES?

It is QUITE AMAZING!

There is a select group of nothing but simply pure APPLE-HATER TROLLS ... and they’re given that title because that’s exactly what their behavior on these threads exemplifies ... (1) they’re trolls, (2) they hate and (3) it’s with anything having to do with Apple products and services.

I can think of one particular solution ... a solution which is kind of humorous in a way ... it would be to have a special Tech Forum ... in which there would be CAUCUS THREADS for each operating system, in which people would post and stay within the “caucus thread” that represented their own choice for a system.

I’ve seen it in the religious forum and it works well over there ... so because of these APPLE-HATER TROLLS perhaps Caucus threads in a Tech Forum would be appropriate.

I had thought about getting a 42 mm Space Gray Apple Watch Sport version, but not at US$399 for the device in its current state. I'll wait for the second-generation model with longer battery life, thank you very much!

That's probably true for most who spend all their time obsessed with tech gadgets...if you know what I mean...nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

Thanks for this post. On the fence about the watch, I have a fitbit and I would get the watch to replace that, but not until this fall.

If you get one would love to hear what you think of it.

I just sent a contribution for your challenge. I’m a monthly donor but I love your Apple ping. How is it doing?

Tim Cook

I like Apple products particularly their Unix based OS Desktop boxes, but I will not buy because of the politics of Apple management. Bill Gates is just as bad so I just go by price and Windoze x86 based products win on price.

Where to begin? Please check your first reply. That is where the attack came from. Some of us don’t derive self worth from the brand names of the appliances we use or sports team or whatever. My ipad, and I will spell it any way I damn well please, does precisely what I say it does. It tracks the items I check on at sites such as Amazon or Autotrader and when I visit other other sites that have ads such as drudge the items I have viewed at Amazon show up as ads on drudge or other sites I visit with ads. And no I don’t use google as my search engine. They are the Borg and Microsoft is close behind. What bothers me is the insulting and combative nature of your response. And in this you are not alone. You presume to know everything about me, my possessions, my character, etc because I “misspelled iPad.” Oh look auto correct fixed it. Then to top it off you call me a liar and a troll. The proliferation of posts of the type you sent, not the content rather the tone, drive people from is site. Some of which we may be able to win over to the conservative side. Think about this before you post quickly and angrily. And I will too. BTW, ipad is not the only word I can’t spell, there are thousands of words I can’t spell. Perhaps millions. Have a good day

Not really. I do understand about Google. I despise the way they act. FWIW I strip Google from my windows machines to the extent my knowledge allows. If I knew how I would strip Google from my apple machines. Presently I just don’t use it and my ipad seems to work well enough. Have a good weekend kiddo.
